Boavista deny Pacos with fortunate draw

Pacos de Ferreira and Boavista continued their indifferent starts to the season as each team took a point in their 1-1 draw at the Mata Real.

A first- half Cristiano goal was cancelled out by a second-half Bongoura strike, allowing both teams to walk away with a point.

The match started with a bang as Cristiano took a corner kick in the 3rd minute, which deflected off Bangoura and off the Boavista post. Six minutes later Diakite’s corner kick almost went in at the far post.

In the 34th minute Cristiano opened the scoring as he latched onto a Fernando Pilar cross and took advantage of Boavista’s defensive hesitation, making no mistake to put the home side 1-0 up.

After the re-start Pacos almost scored their second of the night when Edson supplied a cross to Furtado who headed the ball just past the Boavista post.

Boavista found their equalizer in controversial fashion in the 83rd minute when Bangoura found room in the Pacos defence to head the ball past Pecanha. Pacos were furious the referee sanctioned the goal as they claimed the player was offside, and replays clearly showed the officials got it wrong.

Despite failing to earn a victory Pacos put in a highly positive display, and playing as they did should give them confidence when they take on AZ Alkmaar in the Uefa Cup.

As for Boavista, Jamie Pacheco and company can consider themselves lucky at having left with a point.
