Luis Boa Morte has admitted that he is happy with the start his Fulham side have made to the new Premiership season, and hopes that the Cottagers can keep up their good form.
After suffering a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Manchester United on the opening day, Fulham have taken seven points from the last three games. A credible draw with Bolton Wanderers was followed with a home win over Sheffield Wednesday, and an impressive away victory at Newcastle.
“So far we’ve had a good start to the season and hopefully we can stay in the top ten – it’s a long season but we’re constantly looking forward,” said the 29-year-old.
The win over Newcastle was marred somewhat by a serious injury to new signing Jimmy Bullard, who is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament problem, and Boa Morte admits that the news has been felt by the players.
“All of us were delighted with the result against Newcastle but we really missed Jimmy on the pitch after he went off. Jimmy was taking care of the game for us and after he went off they had more possession but we got the three points.”
“It was a mixed atmosphere after the game because we were happy with the victory but sad for Jimmy,” conceded the former Arsenal forward.
Up next for Fulham is a trip across London to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Boa Morte feels his side are confident going into the clash: “We know it’s going to be a tough game against Tottenham on Sunday but we’ve won our last two games so we’re full of confidence.”
“We’ll do everything we can to get another good result. It’s a London derby and we’ll be up for it.”
