Joaquim Teixeira relieved of duties by Pandurii
Romanian club sack coach after three-month tenure
Romanian strugglers Pandurii Targu Jiu have sacked manager Joaquim Teixeira less than three months after the Portuguese took charge at the club.
The former Boavista boss only took charge at the Tudor Vladimirescu in December, making several signings during the Romanian winter break, including Leiria midfielder Marco Soares, as the club looked to pull away from relegation trouble.
However, Pandurii have lost both of their opening two league games since the resumption of the league last month, while also being eliminated from the Romanian Cup by Gloria Buzau on penalties after a scoreless draw at home.
As a result, chairman Marin Condescu announced on Monday that the man he issued with a two-and-a-half year contract and backed with money to strengthen the squad will leave his post with immediate effect.
Pandurri sit rock-bottom of the Romanian Liga 1 with 15 points from 21 matches so far, five points adrift of safety with thirteen matches left to play in the current campaign. The Oltenia club, who have never been champions in Romania, finished in 11th place last season.
