Bruno Alves delighted to sign contract extension with FC Porto
Liverpool target commits future to Dragons
FC Porto have tied down one of their stars to the club by extending the contract of Bruno Alves for an additional two years.
The defensive stalwart’s current deal expires in 2010, but the Porto brass decided to prolong the player’s association until 2012.
The Portuguese international has truly come into his own this year, earning a starting berth in the national team and arousing interest from clubs abroad such as Liverpool, Newcastle and Juventus.
However, the Porto defender was overjoyed to sign the contract extension and would like to repay the club by winning more titles.
“I have never hidden the fact the FC Porto is my club and that my blood is blue. I view this renewal as a great stimulus.”
“I feel that the fans like me, but I must do even more and win that much more to solidify my place in FC Porto’s history, just like the players of the past,” stated the big defender on the club’s official website.
The news comes just a few weeks after similar extensions were signed by fellow Portugal internationals Raul Meireles and Ricardo Quaresma, and news that Alves will be staying put will be greeted with relief by the club’s fans.
