Jesualdo Ferreira delighted to pen FC Porto contract extension
Wily coach aims for third championship triumph
FC Porto have officially announced that current coach, Jesualdo Ferreira, will be staying with the club for another year. The Portuguese tactician’s contract was due to expire this summer, but the club have decided to lengthen their association with Ferreira for an additional season.
The soon-to-be two time Portuguese championship winning coach was delighted to have formalised the deal and could not hold back his exuberance when he spoke about the fact that he will have an opportunity to make it three championships in a row.
“I always felt from the board and the president the will to continue what we have started. FC Porto always play to win. These feelings leave us with more responsibility and permanent obligations.”
Having enjoyed non-stop since he joined the Dragons, Ferreira could not pass up the opportunity at taking a swipe at one of his former clubs, Benfica, who he coached from 2001-2003. Ferreira let it be known that the scars regarding the way he was sacked have not yet healed.

Solid structure
“I felt a lack of backing in past jobs, although this never interrupted my work. But now I am working for a serious and competent structure which moves forward every single day. I promise all the fans and the board that we will do everything to win more than what we have to date.”
After leaving Benfica, Ferreira spent three highly successful years coaching Braga. He took over the northerners who were struggling at the time and turned them into a top four team, qualifying for Europe on three successive occasions. He has further enhanced his reputation as an astute manager at the Estadio do Dragao.
Indeed, Porto’s decision to extend Ferreira’s contract by only one year comes as a bit of a surprise for a club who claim to have the utmost confidence in his abilities.
