Postiga goes Greek

Jose Peseiro takes FC Porto striker to Panathinaikos

Helder Postiga

Helder Postiga is to try his luck abroad for the third time in his career. The FC Porto striker has been loaned to Greek outfit Panathinaikos, coached by Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro, until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old Portugal striker has already had two spells abroad, neither of which were particularly successful.

He spent one unhappy season at Tottenham Hotspur in England before coming back to Porto, and was later loaned out to St. Etienne in France before again returning to the Estadio do Dragao.

Former Sporting coach Peseiro has now persuaded the forward to join him in Athens. Panathinaikos are making a strong challenge for domestic honours and are still in the Uefa Cup, where they face Rangers in February.

Postiga hopes to make a big impact in Greece, so as to force his way back into Luiz Felipe Scolari’s thinking ahead of Euro 2008.

The Portuguese marksman was expected to leave Porto in the summer, and has seen very little action this season, scoring just one goal in five appearances, three of which as a substitute.
