FC Porto’s Hulk hoping to be incredible
Dragons’ latest acquisition aims for Brazil squad
FC Porto have signed Brazilian forward Givanildo Vieira de Souza, known to the football world as Hulk. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract, costing the Dragons 5.5m euros for 50% ownership of the player.
The marksman gained his nickname due to his stocky build and the green shirts of his previous club, Tokyo Verdy.
Seven years ago the striker had a trial at FC Porto in his mid-teens, but did not convince the club to take him on. But he has been a revelation in the Japanese League, scoring 37 goals in 42 matches last season, and seven in 13 outings this season.
The exciting prospect is known for his free-kick expertise, having two skilful feet and the strength and build that do justice to his nickname.
Hulk has set himself ambitious targets at the three-time Portuguese champions. “I want to adapt quickly, I know Portuguese football is very different from Japanese football. But I feel prepared and I want to score lots of goals for Porto.
“Here I’m going to be more seen. I played well in Japan but it’s a low-profile championship. I believe I can get into the Brazil team.”
