Former Sporting captain Beto could not have wished for a better debut for Bordeaux. Two goals from the centre-back helped his new club into the last sixteen of the French Cup.
After a period of adaptation following his transfer in mid January, Beto was given his debut in the cup tie against third-division Entente.
Although lying second in the French League, Bordeaux were surprised by the minnows who looked set to spring a surprise when Quintin put them ahead in the 65th minute.
However, just five minutes later Beto equalised from a Smicer corner, and on 83 minutes the former Portugal international got on the end of a Jemmali cross to head in the winner.
The fantastic debut will have done Beto’s chances of securing a starting spot no harm at all, and the 29-year-old was obviously delighted.
“I’m very happy with my debut. It’s obviously a good start. They were two important goals, and I’m delighted I could help my team get through to the next round,” said Beto.
