Portuguese duo strike in Carling Cup
Vaz Tê and Ronaldo on the mark
Two of the Portuguese Premiership brigade got themselves on the scoresheet last night to help their clubs progress to the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.
Ricardo Vaz Tê (pictured) scored his second decisive goal inside a week as Bolton beat Leicester 2-1 after extra time. The Algarve born striker produced a classy finish after rounding two defenders to score Bolton’s second.
The 19-year-old, who has a tremendous scoring record for Bolton’s reserve team, is making the most of his limited chances to shine for the first team. A week ago he struck a superb last-minute equaliser in Portugal against Guimarães in the UEFA Cup.
If he keeps up this form he will soon be forcing his way into Bolton boss Sam Allardyce’s first team plans.
Emotional Old Trafford
Old Trafford was the scene of an emotional pre-match tribute to Manchester United legend George Best, who passed away last week.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who wears the same famous number seven shirt, set United on their way to victory again West Bromwich Albion by winning and converting a penalty in the 11th minute. United went on to win 3-1.
