Portuguese Cup: 5th round wrap
Naval thrash Boavista; Estrela dump out Braga
It was another thrilling round in the Portuguese Cup. Although most of the ties ended up with the expected results, some upsets did surface making for an interesting 6th Round draw on Tuesday.
On Saturday night Setubal left it to the very last second of stoppage time to eliminate fellow Bwin Liga side Uniao de Leiria. Matheus struck in the 95th minute to continue Setubal’s sensational season on all fronts.
On Sunday Maritimo dispensed of Oliveirense thanks to Bruno Fogaca’s header in the 14th minute. The Madeira club did not make it easy on themselves as Evaldo was sent off in the 55th minute for collecting a second yellow card.
Perhaps the biggest upset of the round saw Estrela da Amadora beat Braga 1-0. Mateus converted an early penalty to send the Arsenalistas packing from the tournament.
A Flavio Meireles first-half goal proved enough for Guimaraes to down Nacional 1-0 at home. The Guimaraes captain headed in a Desmartes free kick and it proved to be the difference in a tightly contested match.

Naval thrash Boavista
In a surprisingly lopsided affair Naval trounced Boavista 4-1 to send Jaime Pacheco’s team back to Porto with their tails between their legs. It would be the visitors who got on the scoreboard first as Laionel blew a low shot past Naval goalkeeper Wilson Junior in the 7th minute.
Naval equalised in the 19th minute through Saulo. The home side turned on the style in the second half as Naval notched three quick goals midway through the period.
First Marcelinho picked up the pieces after some hard work from Saulo in the 68th minute and five minutes later the Brazilian got his second, with Saulo again the creator. Naval put the game to bed in the 76th minute as Dudu’s shot culminated a forgettable afternoon for Boavista.
Pacos de Ferreira made light work of lower-league side Abrantes as they slapped them around for a 4-0 drubbing. Pacos got the party started in the 16th minute when Furtado tapped in a Cristiano pass to make it 1-0. The home side doubled their lead four minutes later when Carioca got a touch to a Ferreira cross.
Pacos were up by three goals in the 62nd minute as Wesley showed his team-mates how to do it by slamming the ball into the back of the net after Renato Queiros and Ricardinho failed to convert their chances. The rout was complete three minutes later when Pedrinha converted a penalty.
Finally, a late Roberto goal, in the 76th minute, was enough to see Leixoes get past Anadia and book their place in the next round.
