Setubal contest Amuneke transfer
Club claim Nigerian winger is still under contract
The transfer of Vitoria Setubal winger Amuneke to CSKA Sofia has been thrown into doubt after a formal protest was lodged by the Portuguese club.
The player was presented at a press conference as the Bulgarian club’s latest signing, but the transfer has been challenged as nobody from Setubal knew about the deal or gave any authorisation for the move.
The Sadinos have contacted the Bulgarian club and have filed a complaint with the Portuguese Football Federation and the European governing bodies over the matter.
Setubal claim that the player has a contract with the team until 30 June 2008, and is therefore not legally allowed to sign with anyone. A long legal battle between the Portuguese club and their former player may be on the cards.
