Brazilian signs one-year contract at Lisbon club

Sporting have reached agreement with Brazilian Derlei to renew the contract of the veteran striker for a further season.

“I’m pleased we reached a consensus,” said the former Porto and Benfica player. “It was a difficult season for me and I’m proud that the club has recognised that I always gave my all for the team.”

Derlei missed most of the season after a serious injury in training forced him into the operating theatre.

However, when he returned his battling performances gave the Lions a big boost, especially in the Portuguese Cup which Paulo Bento’s side retained.

“Next year we’ll have renewed ambition to win more trophies,” added the striker nicknamed Ninja.
