Sergio Conceicao elected player of the year in Belgium

Former Lazio star wins prestigious Golden Boot award

Former Portuguese international Sergio Conceicao has won the Belgian Golden Boot trophy.

The accolade is awarded to the best player in Belgium, as voted by journalists, coaches and former players.

The former Lazio star finished top of the poll way ahead of Aderlecht rivals Vincent Kompany and Christian Wilhelmsson.

After leaving Italy, Conceicao’s sparkling career appeared to be on the wane, but his surprising decision to move to Standard Liege has rejuvenated the former Lazio star.

Conceicoo’s consistently outstanding performances have helped change the fortunes of the historical Belgian team, who currently lead the championship as they chase their first title since 1983.

The experienced Conceicoo was made captain this season, and plays alongside compatriots Moreira and Jorge Costa.
