Uefa Cup round of 32 first legs
Rangers (Sco) 0-0 Panathinaikos (Gre)
Jose Peseiro’s Panathinaikos go into their second leg against Scottish outfit Rangers with the tie delicately poised following a goalless draw in Glasgow. Helder Postiga was thrown on by Peseiro with twenty-five minutes remaining as the Greeks’ resilient defending saw them leave with the draw they came for.
AEK Athens (Gre) 1-1 Getafe (Spa)
AEK Athens, who fired manager Llorenc Serra Ferrer earlier in the week, needed a stoppage time equaliser to go into the second leg with Spaniards Getafe on level terms. Geraldo Alves and Manu were both left on the bench by the Greeks, with the latter introduced on 66 minutes with the scores level. Getafe went ahead in the 86th minute through Ruben De La Red, but substitute Ismael Blanco’s 93rd minute equaliser gives AEK hope for the second leg.
SK Brann Bergen (Nor) 0-2 Everton (Eng)
Manuel Fernandes played in midfield for Premiership side Everton, leaving the pitch in the 89th minute of an impressive 2-0 win for the Toffees that sees them almost certainly through to the next round. Nuno Valente was not in the travelling squad, however, who won thanks to second half goals from Leon Osman and substitute Victor Anichebe.

Bolton Wanderers (Eng) 1-0 Atletico Madrid (Spa)
In the only real surprise of the round, struggling Premiership side Bolton secured a narrow victory over Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid. El-Hadj Diouf’s goal on 74 minutes followed the dismissal of Atletico’s Argentine youngster Sergio Aguero for spitting. Simao Sabrosa started the game for Atletico but was replaced, while Ze Castro (Atletico) and Ricardo Vaz Te (Bolton) were not involved.
Slavia Prague (Cze) 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur (Eng)
Ricardo Rocha’s Tottenham put themselves in the driving seat ahead of the return leg at White Hart Lane after two first-half goals proved enough for a win in the Czech capital. Former Benfica man Rocha is still out with a foot injury, but goals from Dimitar Berbatov (4) and Robbie Keane (30) gave the Londoners a 2-0 half time lead, with David Strihavka pulling one back for Slavia in the second period.
