UEFA Cup: Sporting leave for Scotland in good heart
Veloso and Polga confident of good result in Glasgow
Sporting’s squad departed from Lisbon’s Portela airport this morning bound for Scotland where they take on Glasgow Rangers in the first leg of the Uefa Cup quarter-finals tomorrow night.
“We’re confident. We had an important victory in the championship at the weekend and now we’ll try and be successful in the next game,” said midfielder Miguel Veloso, who scored his first goal for the club in the 4-1 victory at Naval on Sunday.
Brazilian centre-back Polga acknowledged that the Lions face a tough task, but is also confident of getting a good result. “It’s going to be a complicated match, in a difficult atmosphere. But there are no favourites. We will give our best.”
Striker Rodrigo Tiui and goalkeeper Stojkovic are ruled out of the match through injury, but Polga, Celsinho and Pedro Silva have been reintegrated into the 20-man squad that is otherwise at full strength barring the absence of long-term injury victim Derlei.
