Miguel keen on Premiership switch
Portugal right-back unhappy with Valencia contract
Valencia right-back Miguel has hinted that he would be ready to leave Spanish side Valencia this summer, after admitting a strong interest in plying his trade in the English Premiership.
The Portuguese international has been a major hit at the Mestalla since his 2005 move from Benfica, but has now suggested that he could be ready to try something new as speculation over his future continues.
“England could be where my future lies,” Miguel admitted. “Because in Spain it is much more difficult to join another big club due to the intense rivalry between all the teams.”
“I will have to wait to see what offers I have, but I can say with some conviction that I would like to play in England.”
The confusion over the 27-year-old’s future has arisen following Valencia’s reluctance to improve the terms of his current deal, which still has three years left to run. Miguel’s fine form for the club has led to the player demanding improved terms, yet the club have so far ignored his plea.
Premiership side Chelsea, managed by Portuguese Jose Mourinho, are currently in the hunt for a new right-back after Paulo Ferreira’s struggle with form, and a move to Stamford Bridge would appear to suit the powerful full-back.
