Miguel confident of Valencia resurgence

Three trophies up for grabs says Portuguese international

Portuguese defender Miguel says that his Valencia side are returning from the winter break determined to secure a top four place in the Spanish league, starting with a win at local rivals Villarreal on Sunday.

After a good start, Valencia suffered with inconsistency in the first half of the season, and went into the three-week break in sixth place, ten points behind leaders Sevilla at the summit of La Liga.

“I think that we needed a few days rest with all the games we have played in the La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa Del Rey. I don’t know if the break has helped – we will find out on Sunday – but I hope that things go well for us.”

“We are going to play to win, we have an objective to qualify for the Champions League, and we cannot lose more any more matches.”

“Villarreal has a team with great quality and has players who at any moment can make the difference, but we have to think only about us. It’s crucial to win on Sunday.”

Although some have ruled Valencia out of the title race, there is optimism at the Mestalla that with a fully fit squad Los Ches can mount a late title challenge, and Miguel has an open mind about which trophy he would prefer.

“I personally would love to win the Champions League, but it is always the dream to win the Spanish League, which is the best in the world, so if we win the League then great. If not then the cup.”
