Viana hints at Valencia exit
Valencia’s Portuguese midfielder Hugo Viana insists that he is not panicking about his future at the club, but is aware that things will have to change for him at the Mestalla.
The former Sporting playmaker has been restricted to just one substitute appearance this season, and has failed to even make the bench for Los Ches’ last two matches against Celta Vigo and Gimnastic.
The situation has seen doubts raised over his future, with reports that the club were trying to sell him denied by the player last week, and Viana admits that he is taking things little by little and not being too rash in thinking about his future.
“I’m under contract and certainly still see myself as a Valencia player,” said the Portuguese international.
“Many things can happen from here until December, so it’d be foolhardy to talk of leaving now.”
“I’m continuing to train with all my heart but I don’t have my eyes closed. I’m aware that the Coach doesn’t count on me right now, but I’m doing what I can to convince him otherwise.”
Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores has urged Viana to stay patient, but it remains to be seen how long the 23-year-old will be content to sit in the stands, especially after his spell in England with Newcastle saw him endure similar frustrations.
