Miguel happy to court Chelsea interest

Valencia keen to hold on to Portugal international

Miguel

Valencia right-back Miguel has revealed that Premiership side Chelsea have approached the Spanish club for his services, but is unsure about whether a deal will be agreed.

Recent press reports in England have speculated that Blues manager Avram Grant has identified the 27-year-old as a priority signing for the Stamford Bridge club, who are thought to be preparing a 15m euro bid.

When asked about the possibility of the move, which would see him replace countryman Paulo Ferreira, the former Benfica man admitted: “Is there something with Chelsea? I only know about the supposed interest through the press. According to people here in Valencia, the news is true.”

“But nothing concrete came to me, neither to me nor my agent. I don’t know if they spoke to the Valencia directors. What they told me is that they presented an offer but Valencia were not prepared to negotiate.

“I’m happy with Chelsea’s interest. Whether it will happen one day, let’s see,” he said.

After much talk of a move away from the Mestalla last season, Miguel signed a new five-year contract with Los Ches in September, but the team’s recent decline in fortunes and change of manager could see the Lisbon native reconsider his future in Spain.
