Champions League assault
I just want to say congratulations for Portugal getting 3 clubs into the Champions League. With Portuguese football on a high after Euro 2004, World Cup 2006, we have a great chance of winning the competition this season.

Sporting on the road to glory
Congratulations to Paulo Bento and Sporting. From what I saw in pre-season there will be a lot of celebrating this year to add to the 100 years celebrations. Liedson will be the goal king, Sporting will win the Liga and establish the team as teh greatest in Portugal for the next decade.
With brilliant young players like Djalo, Nani and Moutinho and the experienced team-mates like Ricardo, Polga and Liedson, there is no stopping us. Viva os leoes!!!
Paulo
Porto still the team to beat
Despite the loss of the coach Porto will probably win everything again this year. They have the best attacker (Quaresma), the best midfielder (Lucho), the best defender (Pepe) and the bests goalkeepers (Baia, Helton).

Diego, unnoticed talent?
Although I’m an arsenal fan, I have always liked Porto and I think Diego is a brilliant player. How can Porto leave him out!? I think a move abroad now is inevitable and now he’s been dropped from the Brazil squad he will be aiming to get back into that also. I’m sure the really big clubs will pick him up soon. Good luck to him.

Campeoes, Campeoes, Nos Somos Campeoes
Viva FC Porto, it’s great to be champions again! This season has been very good despite a bad CL run the team has been improving everyday. Queresma is fantastic and has the potential to become better than Ronaldo. It’s quite funny as they are both similar players both form Sporting. Lucho has also been great with 10 goals and I don’t think you could ask much more from him. I just hope we don’t sell any of these players otherwise Porto will never become as respected as clubs like AC Milan as it is always us selling top quality players to Europeon giants. Shouldn’t we be aiming to become one of them and so keep these players instead?
It’s good to hear Adriano is staying as he as been very good this season in top form scoring most games. I am a bit upset that the manager aka. Co is getting rid of Diego. I thought he was great and still can’t get enough of that goal against Chelsea last year. However I hope he uses some of the money to find some decent centre backs as Porto really need to improve their defence if they hope to keep fighting in the latter stages of the European Champions League. Ze Castro and Ronaldo would be good buys?

Benfica's transfer mistakes
I am a massive fan of Benfica and although born and bred in the UK, my family ties extend back to sunny Lisboa. However I have a few grievances with recent transfer dealings. Any fan of the Premier League will appreciate how troublesome the talented but volatile Robert is. Paying him close to £30,000 a week is scandalous as he is a ticking time bomb.... Are the recruitment of Manduca and Marco Ferreira positive? Money is tight, as always, yet I would love to see Sergio Conceição prised away from Belgium.
Stability is something we have achieved over the last couple of seasons under Camacho and Trap, and the wheeling and dealing days of yesteryear must be banished since the dire days of the late 90s will bear witness to this. I feel Koeman is doing much right yet I hope that we manage to maintain our ascendancy to the top!

Adriaanse to come good
I can't understand the criticism of Adriaanse. He's building a young and exciting team and should be given time and should be backed by the fans. No other coach has got so much out of Quaresma. What's more Porto are top of the Liga and in a good position to win it.

Liedson / Baía
Congratulations to Paulo Bento. He did the same thing that Scolari did for the national team. Baía is the best Portuguese goalkeeper but is bad for team spirit. Liedson is Sporting’s best striker but is bad for team spirit. When it’s like that the best thing to do is kick them out. The result is a stronger team.

What is going on With Setanta coverage of Portuguese football for us in the UK? Are they showing live games this season or not? No live games listed for next 2 weeks, and no goals roundup??!!
15/08/2008 14:27
Same story of always all years. Benfica and Sporting fans think they can win Porto but Porto will win easy. I admit Benfica and Sporting are stronger than in the last year. So Porto will win in Febuary and not already in Cristmas as last season :)
13/08/2008 17:24
i would just say, im proud to be a 'benfiquista', but i dont understand why they loaned out Freddy Adu, the guy saved us in key situations...its good to see Carlos Martins in a good place. One guy i want out is Angel Di Maria, that freakin guy always gets the ball taken away and never creates any good scoring oppertunities..
Viva Benfica! this is your time!
11/08/2008 17:16
Now Benfica got a serious coach I think they will break to Porto domination.
Benfica and Porto will fight for the championship and Sporting will get third ;) Bad luck lagartos!!

Boavista FC didn't bribe anyone. Others did it (for years!) and nothing happened.
Boavista (the 4th biggest football club in Portugal)is the escape goat of an unseen scandalous procedure. I'm ashamed to be portuguese!

OhJeez, Sporting has one of the best new footballer factories in the world, if not the best. It also is not what you could call an impoverished corporate enterprise. As a top national league footbal "machine", it is a disfunctional one. (The most distinguished example of what has been untill recently a historical constant of portuguese football: great ability aplenty, combined with incredibly effeminate psychological fragility.) For Sporting this is certainly historical: they were exactly this same way back when I was convinced by my best friend to become a Sportinguista of the North (1955 or thereabout). Watch them drop another 5 to 7 pts before it's all over. You should not need 50 meg players not to lose to ... Leiria, for goodness sakes. By 4-1. Wonderful. Think they could get Scolari or Mourinho to coach them ?? And/or hire back some good moral examples. Like ... a Nani ?? They can afford a Nani, can't they ??

I like to know if there is any good left sided player in Portugal that QPR could buy in January now that we billionaires. Any suggestions would be appreciated
26/09/2007 17:31
TONY your right. portuguese teams are letting out their stars way too early. these stars are young and still can help out their clubs win champions league. because portuguese teams always have a hard time in the champions league and they have not won that many titles. what i have learn is that the clubs all they care about is their big euro money. thats why they sell, BIG MISTAKE. you know when they are in panic is when they can't beat big teams to go far enough in the champions league. hey, they should have not sold their best players, no reason to get fustrated.

16/08/2007 22:48
One last thing SPORTING n PORTO are the best teams in portugal no doubt about it Sporting-SIMAO,RONALDO,QUARESMA,NANI,VELOSO,MOUTINHO
16/08/2007 22:46
Its Simple Really Benfica fans YOU ARE NOT A MAJOR CLUB YOU HAVENT WON ANYTHING IN ALMOST 50 YEARS.YOU CANT "BUY PLAYERS IN THEIR PRIME" BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE THE MONEY BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE GOOD MANAGEMENT.DEAL WITH IT.
16/08/2007 20:37
portugal as a nation needs to hold on to there young stars. the portuguese league is starting to look two south american.
15/08/2007 12:38
Yeah so, uhm... we stick in 4 unproven young players to make up for simaos departure..how do we deal with this departure? We need to start adding some players in their prime if we want to contend.
14/08/2007 11:07
Afonso, if somebody offered you 3 or 4 times more money to do your job wouldnt you accept? Don't blame the players, blame the directors. Until they start getting serious and not letting their best playrs leave it's obvious the other players won't feel motivated to stay. I'm a Benfica fan but feel we are destined for another poor season...
14/08/2007 10:41
Manuel Fernandes is good futball player but has not respect for Benfica. I am happy he goes away. Benfica must have players who love the club as the fans only. Força Aguias!
01/08/2007 02:33
BENFICA IS NUMBER ONE THEY WILL CONTEND FOR FIRST PLACE AGANIST SPORTING AND PORTO AND THEY ARE MY FAVOURITE TEAM IN THE WORLD, WITH THE YOUNGSTER THEY HAVE PICKED UP NOW THEY WILL BE HARD TEAM TO BEAT WITH YOUTH AND EXPERINCE AS SUCH PLAYER AS RUI COSTA IS NUMBER ONE GOOOOO BENFICA!!!!!! ALL THE WAY
31/07/2007 17:26
YU,Di Maria,Cardozo,Adu,Johnson...
Thats a ferocious foundation.
31/07/2007 17:25
it's his oppurtunity knocking...He has this chance to cash in, if he doesn't play up to his potential here, he can kiss LA LIGA/ Primeirship goodbye, and say Hello to the MLS again.. I am confident he will strive, and cement his place amongst the soccer greats of today tho.. especially if he gets help from eddie johnson..whom i hear is all of a sudden the next target for benfica..
31/07/2007 17:23
As far as his actual playing in Benfica..its hard to tell. He's only 18 and he has a tremendous amount of upside, incredible actually. You can't judge his playing in the MLS because most of his team-mates aren't/don't play to the level that he will be facing/playing in the LIGA/Champions League. He def came at the right time..seeing as simao has left, and there is a huge gaping need..
31/07/2007 17:17
Genius move on both parts of the globe. Portugal/Benfica get's alot of raw potential, and generate even more intrest into the superliga and their own club ($$).. and if ADU is sucessful in Europe MLS begins to be taken more seriously..it's not an instant solution, but it's a definate start..goes hand in hand with beckham to the MLS.
31/07/2007 15:50
I'm really happy Adu's going to Benfica. He'll do well there and could even become the new Simao after one or two stellar shows.
23/06/2007 00:44
What do you guys think about there being less than 50% of the league being Portuguese? Does it matter to you? Will it affect the fans' interest?
07/06/2007 05:08
Does anyone know where I can get Portuguese soccer cards at a reasonable price?
06/06/2007 16:02
i understand that the mens football is very important but what about those who want to know about womens football in portugal ... and the portugese national womens team... though they do not qualify for the womens world cup .. dosent mean you dont give any support .. i request this site to show some information about the portuguese womens football and support them ... thankyou very much
01/06/2007 01:18
How badly will teams be hurt by players leaving to play in other countries? Are there enough younger players to come in and contribute right away?
03/05/2007 12:50
Porto are not the force they used to be. I belive Sporting can win the championship still but they must win all thier matches left. Go Lions!
22/03/2007 08:58
I really hope Benfica win their next match against Porto then they will top of the table and i hope they remain there. Benfica are so going to win the Portuguese Liga and become national champions, oh i cant wait. BENFICA are the greatest club in the whole world.
20/03/2007 21:21
benfica is the gayiest team to life sprting rules
28/02/2007 19:33
Even Benfica and Porto fans will admit that Sporting have the best young players, but when it comes to the big moments they fail becuase of their youngnes and Porto and Benfica end up winning. Sporting need 2 experienced plaeyrs to guide the young one to become a great team. Otherwise Sporting will always be 3rd in Portugal.
27/02/2007 07:55
If Sporting stay with there yong players for 5 years they will be best team in Portugal and one of best team in the Europe.
18/02/2007 16:04
Porto have no equals in Portugal. They will win the Liga again this year and as long as they do not sell Quaresma they have a good chance of winning in Europe again this year or next year.
