Portugal's Euro 2008 chances
At Euro 1996 Portugal reached the quarter-finals, at Euro 2000 the semi-finals, and in 2004 the hosts went all the way to the final. Can Scolari's men go that one step further?
Portugal to win Euro 2008 & 2010 WC
I’m from Guyana, but I & A LOT of My Familia, Ancestors & MOST of My Culture is mixed MOSTLY WITH Portuguese & Spanish. I really did wanted to see Portugal as World Champions this year but the French cheated once again & those Italians got lucky AGAIN! Figo & Pauleta should return to their TRUE Nacional TEAM, to prepare 4 Euro 2008 in order to be Campeonas Euro de 2008! Viva Portugal!!!

Scolari needs to forget his bad habits
Isnt it about time Scolari picked an experienced player for the national side so that they can start winning again. They need Sergio Conceicao. He has winner mentality and never give up attitude. Why don’t we all do something about it and make up a protest website.
Conceicao still has a lot to give. The portuguese FA man needs to sort it out and settle his differences. Conceicao has mentioned that he has another 4 years of playing career. I for one, hope he moves out of Standard and joins a premiership team so that I can watch him play everytime.

One striker short of glory!!
Listen UP!!! Portugal or I should say Scolari has only one problem that’s keeping our nation from winning the whole thing in 2008. You want to know what that is??? A STRIKER!!! Everyone stop your quelms about the team being not having PAULETA. For Christ’s Sake the guy never did anything for the team. He was as useless for Portugal as he has always been. When he most needed to show his worth, (i.e during EURO 2004 & World Cup 2006) he never did. I mean ONE GOAL !! ONE GOAL to show. That’s beyond Pathetic. My Grandmother could get the ball behind the net with more regularity.
What Scolari needs to do is bring in the young guns. He seems ready to let NANI in, which is great, but he should pass the baton over and let Djalo, Vaz Te, Nelson and even Fernandes sit the bench and replace the older men. It would inspire the old men and prepare the young guns for EURO. They need to play. Scolari’s biggest problem, besides having a tendency of sticking with those he knows such as Simao, Maniche, Valente, and even Petit (even though they are limited in what they bring), is not having a quality STRIKER.
Look at Henry and what he did to the opposition. He single handedly killed Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Unlike useless PAULETA who waited up front for the magic pass, Henry pushed the play upwards, acting as a midfield/striker. In my opinion, GOMES, POSTIGA just don’t cut it. If Portugal needs to get someone from another country, so be it, but the time has come to realize that the status quo will not do. A Brazilian, Mozambican, or Angolan would be great if they are a diamond in the rough. At the very least DJALO or VAZ TE.!!! Come on Scolari. PLEASE!!!

Quaresma and Nani’s time has come
Last games have already proved that it won’t be easy to start everything again without Figo and Pauleta. But Scolari will take Quaresma and put him on the left. This will help a lot, Quaresma is one of the best to replace Figo. Also Nani had a promising start. Scored agains Denmark and looked quite good in Helsinki. The squad looks tired, three unlucky games in a row. The spirit and strength will return soon! Forca Portugal!!

Spirit!
I totally agree with everyone’s opinions on this page. I think the spirit of the Portugal team is infectious and we have a lot to be proud of. One thing that bothers me as an English speaking Portuguese person though is listening to British commentators degrade our players every opportunity they get. It is no doubt, due to our recent shared history on the pitch.
Just a reminder of what I’m referring to, we beat them in Euro 2000 3:2 then in Euro 2004 on penalties and again in the world cup 2006! Not to mention Benfica beating Liverpool and Manchester Utd in the Champions League 2006! I think consistent victories against an opponent can only mean that the victor is in fact better. I suppose we’ll have to beat them again at the Euro 2008 :)

Exciting future
Two years is along time, and with the youngsters coming up for our team, I think Portugal will have the most exciting team in the tournament. If only someone can step up and be as influential as Figo, the title is ours.

Portugal to qualify
I like Scolari, but please remove that photo of him with his middle finger up. That is completely in poor taste, whoever put it there. I’m sure that Portugal will qualify to Euro 2008.

Spirit!
Even today, months after the ending of the 2006 World Football championship I am proud about the final outcome of the Portuguese football team. Of course it would be incredible if Portugal had Italy’s result, but the good feeling still persists and I will tell you why.
As a Canadian with strong Portuguese heritage I live in Los Angeles, California. This city has the population of Portugal (about 10 million). That may not mean anything to most, but the country competed against populations with 2-6 times more citizens (by the way the population of California is 30 million, same as Canada, and the USA is about 250million).
I’m not making excuses about Portugal not having as great a selection of talent, similar resources, etc. In fact, I would like to emphasize that these are just a small part of Portugal’s success. The big issue less discussed is, Spirit! I saw a lot of spirit in this team and fans as well. With so much against their favor what could have taken such a small country so far? Nothing except spirit. The spirit to win. That’s what football is about! That’s how football emulates life! If this spirit continues the next world cup will be in the hands of a better coordinated and confident Portuguese team.

VIVA PORTUGAL, VIVA A NOSSA BANDEIRA
So where do we run and hide? Where do we point fingers? How do we cover up that lose to France? We don’t. US Portuguese have pride and believe in our team. For we made it farther then any one thought we would or could. So therefore we came home winners from Germany regardless of our placement. We proved the WORLD wrong.
Yes, France won the game. But if you have watched the pre-game and read up on this game France said that they were playing against one of the best in the world. They knew that they would have to play to win this game. For the record they didn’t say anything like that about any team they played. So US Portuguese won’t run or hide. Won’t point fingers. Or cover up for the lose. Instead we wave our flag a little harder raise it a little higher and lift our hands and heads to our players.
They did everything they could to get where they got. VIVA PORTUGAL! VIVA A NOSSA BANDEIRA! VIVA A NOSSA GENTE! The Euro will be great to watch! But even better to win. Portugal all the way! 2008 Euro is ours.

Portugal can win 2008 Euro Cup
Portugal Can do it!! I am happy that they have made it this far. I think Scolari is doing a good job but, if the team just practises a little more shots the ball into the net, not above (Maniche), then they can win the 2008 Euro Cup.

Wow
I’m from Egypt but my favourite team is PORTUGAL!! Of course! I cannot believe no one can believe that Portugal had gone that far! I mean they are higher than Brazil!! Ronaldo should mature just a little bit you know? Maybe then next euro 2008 Portugal would be better but with Pauleta and Figo out hmmmm I am not sure....

Proud to Portugese but what about .....
Forca Portugal, Semiao is speaking the truth, but is our pool of talent really that good? I know Barbosa, Gama, Moutinho, etc... are all gonna have great futures, but is that too far? Remember in Euro 2008 Deco will be thirty so he’ll probably play one more world cup before retiring, what will we do then!!!!!!!
O Ciganito
Looking forward to 08!
Rock solid defense in front of the best goalie in the world (note that Buffon was no where near any of France’s pks), a dynamic, playmaking midfield led by Deco and Maniche, and excellent winger/striker play from Simao and a hopefully more matured Ronaldo, all add up to a bright future. With Scolari staying and now an attitude that winning is actually possible, who other than Germany (maybe) will be as strong going into Switzerland?
