An Italian job, Portugal national team coach, Premiership?
After months of constant speculation about a fraught relationship between Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and club owner Roman Abramovich the Portuguese coach has departed from the London club.
Love him or hate him, nobody can argue that Mourinho is a winner, having achieved phenomenal success at FC Porto and Chelsea. Under the charismatic coach, both clubs enjoyed their most successful periods ever in their proud 100-year histories.
So job offers certainly won't be lacking. Were Chelsea right to let him go? Given Scolari's recent problems could Mourinho have a spell at the helm of the Portuguese national team? Where would you like to see him next?

You are a good manager but sometimes you should control your big mouth do more & talk less & do more. At the end of the day winning is all matters no playing good football. Win the European and World Cup for Potugal than you can talk more.

Jp glad to hear it.. I'm not Jose's greatest fan but can appreciate his work to date.. also feel the same way about his talk about not taking the National job just yet.. although I beleieve that could just be posturing.. and you know he is a master of the media so there are definite possibilities it is just a coverup.. besides you know how Managers feel about commenting on a position someone still holds... they talk that they don't want it and in the background they say if the job was open then I would consider it.. but not till then.. I still feel he can Manage both.. as the National Team job is a PT role anyways.. and it is usually during breaks in play anyways.. so there is no conflicts.. some other Managers such as Hiddink, and I believe Advocaat had previously held PT roles.. which will mean more money for Mourinho and more spotlight.. two things he loves dearly.. so it could be a win win scenario..
As for Pauleta.. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.. I've read allot on him.. as a person he

Just wanted to correct a misunderstanding. I do like Jose Mourinho he is actually is my favourite coach in the world. I'm just a tad disappointed with him because he doesn't want the Portugal job. Again I keep hearing nagative talk of Pauleta. I really don,t know why. I suggest reading Pauleta's player profile right here on this web page.

JP you can't be serious with those comments.. just because you don't like him... facts are facts... as of late he won the Charity shield this year and 5 other titles in the Premiership... not to mention the European Cup, Uefa Cup back to back, and more Portuguese Trophies than I can count..
He is simply the Best Manager Period at the moment in the world.. a couple of early season ties.. don't amount to jack.. especially with the turmoil going on at Chelsea... when heated rival fans can come on and say that they are glad he is gone (hats off to those gentlemen), because it makes Chelsea weaker that is a sign of the greatest honour.. name me one Manager in the world who has more Trophies than him? Damn the Toronto FC should pick him up so that we could score and win some games.. not like MLSEL can't afford to buy him..
Chelsea was going on near 70 home games without a loss.. and his personal record as coach is over 100 home games without a loss dating back to his days with Porto.. I'm a fan of Benfi

I do agree that Jose Mourinho is a great coach definitly the best of portuguese coaches but not the best in the world as many may think. Like Scolari he started off very well but as of lately he hasn't done much for chelsea. If he had he wouldn't be looking for a job right now.
If Jose Mourinho is truly a proud Portuguese, than he'll come back to coach in Portugal or the National team, but that's unlikely now that he's tasted real money. He'll go to the best bidder, likely an Italian club or a Spanish club. Portugal can't afford him.

Mourinho is the best manager available today, whether you hate him or love him. His record speaks for itselself, winning 5 cups in 3 years? An amazing feat. He should get back to the English premier league, he still have enough fire power left in him to achieve another great run, before settling down for the Portugal National team. The man loves challenge. He is a winner.

Some people say that Mourinho was invited to leave others that he had enough of Abromovich.Either way wasn't good for the Chelsea fans!As for being Portugal's coach that will problably just happens after 2008.It's pretty clear that is not going to happen now...

mourinho would b a gr8 coach 4 portugal bt nt b4 2008,scolari should take them 2 euro 08 and after that, mourinho can take over 4 the world cup. in the meantime, he can coach some other team. mourinho is a genius,plain and simple.sometimes he is a dirty genius,but he is nontheless a genius.he has charisma.chelsea have made a terrible mistake and i think they'll pay dearly.

Mourinho is the Best Coach Chelsea ever had, winning 6 Cups and bring Chelsea to Life is Magnificant they must thank him for what he has done for the club...Opinion: I think he should coach the Portugese National Team, remember that Scolari is under pressure right now coz of the Euro results and coz of the fight. i think mourinho wants to make has much money he can right now. i believe he'll go to another club. mourinho should coach for national team for the world cup 2010. that will be the year. if he waits to long, portugal might not have a great team later on. we cant predict the future.

Chelsea were nothing before Mourinho and they'll be nothing now that he's gone... Too bad for Chelsea fans, looks like the old vanguard of Liverpool and Man U are prepared to dominate the league again... One can thank the arrogance of Abromovich for Mourinho's unfortunate departure... With Scolari in hot water the Portuguese federation should bring in Jose...

I think Mourinho will end up coaching the portuguese national team. For one he has nothing else to prove in club soccer, and coaches that have nothing else to prove in club soccer usually take on international level. As this will be a new challenge for him. Coaching at Tottenham you must be kidding? Chelsea would block that in a heart beat.

It was pretty much inevitable.
Regardless of whether you liked his attitude, personality or style, he was a man who knew what he was doing.
When a club's owner starts making the footballing decisions and undermines the coach you know that one way or another things arent going to last.

If Gilberto Madail wasn´t an incompetent he would try to put José Mourinho in the portuguese team. We would win the next games and then we would be european champs at 2008! Then Mourinho could start a season in Barça, Inter or whatever!

Portugal can't afford him, neither can the majority of European teams, especially Italian. He'll either end up taking over at Barca when Rijkaard gets the boot or....no, that's it, Barca manager by summer '08.

I would imagine that he was compensated very well to leave quietly. I also beleive that he'll land on a big team relatively quickly...so big cash and a big team = Mourinho wins again.

As a Liverpool fan I must admit I was delighted to here Jose's gone. I don't especially like the man, but I recognise that he was the chief architect behind turning Chelsea into the best team in England for a couple of years. They will now surely slide into mediocrity. Despite his (many) faults, I also think Jose is good for the Premiership and hope he stays.

We need a strong Manager at the helm of the National Team.. with all the offensive talent on hand.. we need a coach who understands that some semblance of Defence wins Trophies.. Some Prima Donas on the squad need to have their reins pulled.. Jose should coach the National Team.. and like the recent matches with Brazil show that the Homeland is superior scoring and coaching..
Scolari is about to be suspended... at least four games.. hire Jose now to get us back winning or else there won't be a Euro2008 to attend.. any Mgr who thinks his team is playing well as they tie Armenia should be fired on the spot.. When the results start going badly its time for a coaching change.. was for Chelsea and the same can be said for Portugal.. The Future is Bright, The Time is Now..

John form London, you are a idiot to think negatively about a world champion coach in Jose. The man is the best club coach in the world. he is one of the most intelligent persons in fuetbol today!. Where was Chelsea before Mourinho?, no where!. Jose should def. take over Scolari position after the Euro 08 campaign. Good luck to Jose, I can def see him land a gig in Real Madrid or Barcelona,.
