The Delusion of Realism.. |

I apologize for not being around much of late but repeatedly saying I told you so.. and talking ad nauseum about exactly how I predicted this exact end.. years in advance and succession was not really appealing.
Anyways let's address the Blurry Realist.. first of all why should LFV who for the last 5 years has brought in some really huge gems.. including talented Nationals.. a man that turned his Russian Roulette approach of player procurement into an almost exact science. Why should he wear the antlers for these failures.. he has developed some of the greatest squads ever at Benfica.
How can you not blame JJ when clearly he had one of the best sets of squads ever in red history.
How can you not question him when Benfica always is in the 1 or 2 for spending in a 3 to 4 horse league yet they lose or barely win against the beggars of the Liga.
How can you not chide him for micro managing his squads from the sidelines, to the point that they turned on him.
How can you not laugh at him for his eye for talent.. when clearly he doesn't fully support the best players on the squad.. he consistently plays inferior players as his untouchables. The good players at best get substituted out on a regular basis.
Then you go on about his track record at Benfica which included a narrow win of the Liga, being 20 odd points behind last year year in second.. and having an amazing lead and squad that he choked on all the way to the end this season.
Wow considering Sporting has had many off years of late, and Braga spends a quarter of what Benfica spends.. clearly his record of winning almost nothing is impressive. As for Mickey Mouse Cup that is the Taca which he fails to win.. the LC is the Turd Bowl and is only useful on the bus when the toilet is full.
It is Realists like you that have destroyed such a proud history of success, applauding mediocrity is what has us looking at the coat tails of Porto almost every year.
Just because we have had bad managers before him, and lousy teams does not mean we applaud mediocrity.
With a bad manager PDC still managed to win against the Joker Jesus..JJ.. when Porto has a bad season they still win.. Benfica has a good one and we are in second at best.. and could say we were in it till the last few months.
As for Arsenal they play in a much higher league.. with much better competition so their is no comparison.
Then NJ who admits they had the best squad and should've won yet states that he hasn't done a bad job?
He mentions the players were not rotated enough but never talks about how in the majority of games he didn't start his best squads even when the players were uninjured.. his squad selections always lacked.. and I can only recount two games where he had players starting that were on form.
Coincidentally the second highest scorer on the team (Nolito) slumped when he sat on the bench..?
Weird coincidence that you can't score or assist (he was a leader in that category too) when he wasn't playing. Fortunately it didn't affect the parrots around here who chirped JJ's message that he wasn't on form. Yet Gaitan who rarely was on form started almost every game?
I will not go through the whole squad and point out how each player was mismanaged.. because they all were.
But I will bring up the mismanagement of the Portuguese National players because the heinous mismanagement of those players during JJ's tenure has been aggravated in nature. From Coentrao, Sabrosa, Eduardo, Gomes, Quim, Moreira, Mak, Vitor, Oliveira, Amorim, L. Martins, Mika, Almeida, Simao, Ribeiro.. etc..
All were mismanaged badly and it is only through their extreme skill have managed to continually impress.. in an Eagle jersey.
This is where NJ waxes us about how those players weren't equals or better to the talent on the pitch.. yawn/puke
Then we have Andre who sees the record skipping for the last 3 years but thinks that the same music playing is somehow a different song. He is undecided if the record needs changing? Even though he believes JJ is to blame for the whole mess.
Well Andre is more than likely to get his wish.. unfortunately JJ will probably stay on.. but will undermine all the talent on the squad and they will lose again next season.. this time probably not close and very few Portuguese players will get a start in the process of losing another year.
Andre is right though when he says that Benfica was in with a chance to win the CL this season.. many of the top squads were ripe for the picking this year and with such a talented squad.. we could've seen at least a Final.. same as when he choked last years Europa.. although ties and near results were his road map to the finals.. luck finally failed him.. because it clearly wasn't technical genius.. or an impenetrable defense. We will never see that many juggernauts misfiring.. in the CL.. Porto seized the moment to win their last CL.. we missed our opportunity.
Hey I love NJ & Andre but it has taken them 3 years to finally start questioning what I told them would happen during the season of the Liga win. Bright boys..but the red glasses blurred their vision.
Unfortunately unless LFV improves his Management selection the same way he has improved his purchasing.. we are destined to watch Porto continually beat us during their off years.
How is that for Realism?
