Vitória Guimarães book their place at Jamor

Northerners beat Belenenses to make Portuguese Cup final

portuguese-cup-close-up.jpgVitória Guimarães got to the final of the Portuguese Cup for the second time in three years tonight, after a 1-0 win at the Dom Afonso Henriques Stadium completed a 3-0 aggregate victory over Belenenses. An early goal from Marco Matias proved enough for Rui Vitória's young side to complete the win and trigger jubilant celebrations among the home fans.

Vitória will play Benfica in the final at the National Stadium in Jamor on 26 May. Reaching the final also guarantees the club European football next season.

Vitória handed historic punishment

Vimarenenses facing two games behind closed doors

History was made in the world of Portuguese football today, though unfortunately not of the positive kind. Following the events of Sunday's B team Minho derby, Vitória de Guimarães have been punished by the Federação Portuguesa de Futebol with a two-match ban on supporters at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques.

Rui Vitoria takes over at Guimaraes

Search for replacement underway at Pacos

Vitoria de Guimaraes have this afternoon confirmed the arrival of Rui Vitoria as head coach. The 41 year-old, who began the 2011/12 season at Pacos de Ferreira, has replaced Manuel Machado, who tendered his resignation on Friday. Vitoria, who has just one full season of top flight experience, has signed a contract with the Minho club until the end of the current campaign.

Manuel Machado has resigned as coach of Vitoria de Guimaraes with immediate effect, the Minho club confirmed via a statement on their website last night. The tactician's latest spell at the helm of his hometown club began in the summer of 2010, and was characterised by a disconnect between on-pitch achievements and supporter unease.
