The overall quality of the clubs outside the big 4 are noticeably weaker than they were last year. Part of the problem stems from the big clubs keeping their most talented prospects on the B team rather than sending them out on loan. The current economic situation in Portugal has also contributed to the number of decent players who leave Portugal to inferior leagues with higher salaries.
I know that the transfer season is far from over, but based on the current squads, I'm pretty sure which teams will be mid-table sides and which ones will be fighting to avoid relegation.
My prediction:
1. Benfica
2. Porto
3. Sporting
4. Braga
5. Nacional
6. Maritimo
7. Academica
8. Rio Ave
9. Vitoria
10. Olhanense
11. Pacos Ferreira
12. Estoril
13. Gil Vicente
14. V. Setubal
15. Beira-Mar
16. Moreirense
