FC Porto leapfrog Benfica with one match left
The climax for the Portuguese season has finally arrived (or has it? Let's keep in mind that FC Porto have yet to play third-placed Paços de Ferreira away). Last night's match had everything fans from one side or the other of the barricade and the neutral football buffs could want: Intensity, uncertainty about the result, some undercover dirty tricks and a goal in the dying moments.
In a match that was under the scrutiny of many people worldwide - since it was the last tittle race still going in Europe's major leagues - FC Porto and Benfica participated in a hard-fought battle for Portugal's most important title that must have attracted numerous fans the world over.

Porto see off Vitória to keep title hopes alive
FC Porto 2-0 Vitória Setúbal
With 25 minutes remaining and the game still goalless, Porto's title ambitions looked in danger of being definitively quashed tonight, despite dominating against Vítoria Setúbal, after yet another missed penalty - this time James failing to convert.
But two simple finishes by Lucho and Defour, after inch-perfect crosses from James and Mangala respectively, secured the three points for the Dragons, moving Vítor Pereira's side to within one point of Benfica who play at Marítimo on Monday.

Porto pile pressure on Benfica with win at Moreirense
Paços de Ferreira win at Rio Ave to strengthen hold on third place
Jackson Martínez bounced back to form with two goals as FC Porto beat Moreirense 3-0 in Moreira de Cónegas to move to within one point of Benfica at the top of the table. Earlier in the day Paços de Ferreira came from behind to beat Rio Ave 2-1 and thus edge closer to confirming Champions League football next season. |

FC Porto make double swoop for Vitória Guimarães pair
Tiago Rodrigues and Ricardo join Dragons for 2013/14
There may be over a month of the current season still to go, but FC Porto have already started planning for next year. Reports in Portugal say Vitória Guimarães midfielders Tiago Rodrigues and Ricardo (pictured) have been bought by the Dragons on 4-year contracts, although the transfers will only be officially announced in the close season. |
