It seems that every week news emerges in Portugal about a different club finding it difficult to cope with the financial demands of running a football team in this day and age. The lastest is Beira-Mar as the Auri-negros have liens placed against their organisation initatied by ex-board members Jose Cachide and Artur Filipe. The current president, Mario Costa, had confessed during the club's General Assembly that Beira-Mar were in monetary distress, but have a solution that might help the salvation of the club. "This week there will be a meeting with (Liga president) Fernando Gomes, who is our intermediary in this process, and the board of directors. We will try this Tuesday to resolve this siutation." by Marco Pereira |

Danny, maybe an option could be something they do here in On, Canada for beer. We have 2 companies that can only sell beer, benefit is that you can get any type of beer including both Portuguese beers, and random stuff you would never find if beer was just sold at a regular shop. Maybe they have to regulate how merchandise is sold. If you want to sell jerseys you have to have all of the teams in stock anywhere in the country. (this wouldn't count for the shops in each team.
This away if your a traveling away fan you can still pick up your team's jersey somewhere in town.
The other option to help teams would be to have earlier start times + blackout all games in the local area to get people to the stadiums.
I know every club faces debt but hopefully things get better quickly!
