Adu returns to Benfica

Belem club also release Igor

freddy-adu-belenenses.jpgBelenenses have officially announced that they have allowed Freddy Adu and Igor to return to their parent clubs, Benfica and Sevilla, respectively.

The word came down via club president Viana de Carvalho as the American Adu has had a horrid time with the Restelo outfit. The former DC United player only amassed 81 playing minutes since joining the club on loan in the summer.

The 20-year-old has not had the best of luck since making the move to Europe, but will get another look with Benfica now that Jorge Jesus has been inserted as head coach.

As for Igor, the 21-year-old Brazilian has featured even less with the Azuis, having only earned 37 playing minutes.

Adu is overhyped and overated. If the kid can't cut it in MLS, he's sure not going to able to cut it in Europe. Adu needs to find another line of work, he's done.
terrible luck

Adu his overhyped. He had an amazing chance at Monaco on french football, he didn't adapt to anything.
Many people had expectations on him when he was more younger, a lot of clubs like Milan, Inter, Roma, Sevilla, Manchester etc were interested... why they all lose their interest and only Benfica bring him up to europe? and then everybody refuses him...worst then Balboa.
And a good players plays well under any circunstances
Terrible luck

I have still yet to figure Portuguese football concept and expectations. I don't think Adu or Igor for that matter was the problem at Belem. What can someone do with 81 or 37 minutes??? Coaches need to learn to use the players they have - please don't tell me that all the scouts had it wrong on Adu - didn't Benfica see something and went to get him??? Then of course fired the coach that did. Adu have worked with more coaches in 3 yrs than I can I can count (6). Now he might not be all that good but he has not been given a real chance.
so sad

WHAT ever happened to Belenenses use to be a european shoe in for uefa cup now falling apart like Boavista and Vitória Setúbal. Portugal's smaller clubs felling the economy pinch. Atleast my SLB is setting attendance records this year. FORCA SLB.
Stupid people

This kid is overhyped and overated which is proven. Adu only had 81 minutes played with Belenenses a team that is fighting relegation. Send him back to MLS!
