Benfica’s Saviola confident of clinching “massive prize”

Argentine forward praises Braga’s staying power

SaviolaBenfica forward Javier Saviola says that he and his team-mates will be able to withstand the pressure on Sunday as they seek the one point they need to win the Portuguese championship.

The Lisbon club take on Rio Ave at the Estadio da Luz, and despite expecting a tough game, Saviola is sure Benfica fans will be celebrating come Sunday night.

“We will deal with the anxiety like a great team, just as we have been all season long. Rio Ave are a difficult team who are physically very strong and don’t let the opposition play. But we know we have a lot in our favour. We trust our qualities. It will be a massive prize to end the season well, winning and celebrating the title.

Saviola also brushed away thoughts that the suspensions to Di Maria, Javi Garcia and Fabio Coentrao will adversely affect Benfica. “The team has already played well without these players.”

The striker admitted that title rivals Braga deserve credit for their performance this season.

Braga have surprised everybody. We played a season of champions, but Braga had the merit to stay at the top of the table. They play good football and deserve to be where they are.”
