Mourinho gives Rodrigo green light

Real Madrid boss approves striker's move to Benfica

rodrigo.jpgBenfica just might be closer to landing Real Madrid prodigy Rodrigo as Jose Mourinho has given his blessing for the striker to move to the Portuguese capital as spaces in the squad of the Spanish giants are limited.

The Spanish U19 sensation has been the subject of intense transfer speculation and the move may finally materialise as Real's new bench boss feels that it would be worthwhile for the Real youth product.

"The transition would be beneficial for the player. If there is a good offer, I will not impede the negotiation," said the two-time Champions League winner to Lusa. "(Portugal) is a championship where he will have more opportunities to play than at Real. The Encarnados are a club of a great size and it would be good for him."

"Rodrigo is not easy because he is one of the players with the most potential within Real Madrid's academy.  If he stays, I can integrate him into my squad. But at this moment we have pure strikers like Higuain and Benzema."

"We even have Ronaldo and Di Maria, but they aren't pure strikers. If Raul leaves, and it is the player's will that will determine that because I am not capable of pushing anyone out of the team, there will be space for Rodrigo."

"To clarify, if there is a good offer for Real Madrid and the club can recoup him in the future, I will not oppose the move."
