Zoro hoping to resolve future quickly

Defender not banking on staying with Benfica

MarcZoro20070522.jpgMarc Zoro does not know where he will be playing football this season, but one thing is for sure, it will not be with the reigning Portuguese champions Benfica.

The Ivory Coast international has been aimlessly wandering the Portuguese league since his arrival in 2007. The stopper has been a flop ever since he made the switch from Italian side Messina three years ago.

Zoro has had two loan spells with Vitoria de Setubal and has amassed 38 appearances in all three seasons in Portugal. The central defender was close to making a move to the Premier League with Blackburn, but one thing he knows is certain, he is not in the Lisbon club's plans.

"In three years, I never had a clear opportunity to earn my spot in the (Benfica) squad, so it won't happen now," said Zoro frankly. "There has been a lot of time when I stopped dreaming about that and I am a realist. What I want to do is train and resolve my future, and have Benfica help me do that."

"Last season I was close to transferring to Blackburn. I hope that this year nothing goes wrong in the last minute for me to resolve my situation as quickly as possible."

"I have the (Benfica) president's promise that he will help me, but the president has never spoken to me. Although, he has always been someone who acts in a very correct manner."

Didn't know that, then it'll be same old same old every year till he's out! How much longer till his contact is done?

Benfica would let him go on a free tomorrow, if anyone would take him. Zoro is one of the highest earning players at Benfica, nobody in world football is going to pay an injury prone player like him the money he gets at Benfica.

Zoro will see out the end of his contract and get every cent he can from Benfica, who were utterly stupid to offer him such high wages in the first place.

Just let the guy leave on a free transfer for chief sacks. No sense having guys who hold no value within/without the team. Just let him go, a guy whose story is touching (facing racism in the game) and I was hoping the best for him and maybe one day sport the Red, but if it is inevitable that he goes and has shown no signs of an improving form than ithink the only thing to do is to give the man free reign over his own future instead of playing silly games/head games. FREE ZORO!
