Chelsea confident over €20m deal for Benfica’s Ramires

Benfica to consider offer

English champions Chelsea hope to announce a deal for Benfica’s Brazilian midfielder Ramires over the next few days, according to reports.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of much media speculation in recent days, with both Chelsea and fellow Premiership club Manchester City linked with a move for the former Cruzeiro man. Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid are also thought to be interested, while Internazionale of Italy are long-term admirers.

However, according to A Bola, Chelsea are confident that their offer of 20m euros, which was communicated to Benfica on Tuesday, will see them win the race for Ramires. The paper claims that Man City have not tabled an official offer, and the feeling at the moment is that the player is destined for Stamford Bridge.

Ramires, who is currently on vacation after competing in the World Cup, is being kept informed of developments, as Benfica consider whether to sell the Brazilian after just one season at the Estadio da Luz. A Bola cites sources in London as being confident that the deal will go through.

Did anyone see him in the WC? He's lost a step or two. He might be ok in Liga Sagres, and actually had a pretty good year for Athletico, but come CL play Benfica need someone better. If he wants to come back when his contract runs out at Athletico, i'm ok with that. I wouldn't pay anything to get him back here tho. He's a good sub (last 20 min) on the wings for a good team.
No, to Simao

Simao hasn't looked that great, especially last season.
I know that he's an all time fan favorite, but I would be concern in him coming in.
I'm worried about the locker room dynamic as well.
i say sell him

I to, wish that Ramires would stay another season, but I think that 20 mil is too much to turn down.

I do love the way Ramires tracked back and covered when Maxi was caught up top, and the way he attacked on the wings. He also provides help on the middle of the field. He's a very talented player that will get better.

The one thing to keep in mind is that he'll be a tremendous injury risk. As you guys have mentioned, Ramires played a full Portuguese season and then went straight to the World Cup. He also had played a full Brazilian season before coming to Benfica without a break. He has played well over 100 matches straight, and could break down.
You can actually notice that his pace was off towards the end of the season. He wasn't as fast or better yet, quick, than earlier in the season.

I would have loved to see this squad compete in the Champions League. I know that there's a lot of talk, but only two players have been moved, up to now. We seem to have coverage in the middle and up top. Keeping the back four together would be the most important thing, in my opinion.
Not good

I would like to see Ramires stay at least another season. I think Ramires said he wouldn't move from Benfica unless it was Real Madrid, Barcelona or Chelsea and 20 million is alot of money and hard to turn down.
ramires

they payed 7.5 millon sold 50% for 6 millon so they own half of the player for 1.5 millon i agree he should be sold for 26-30 millon that way we could make 13-15millon of a 1.5 millon good deal for benfica i think
Ramires

I would've liked Ramires to stay, but on the other hand 20 million is too much to turn down, i dont think he's worth that much! With 20 million we could get a much cheaper replacement and have a lot left over to spare. I think its more of a priority to keep Cardozo at the club, because his partnership with Saviola could help us do really well in the Champs League. We also need more defensive cover because we've been conceding too many goals in these pre-season friendlies. I've never been convinced with Sidnei, and Farias is untested. As for Roberto, I hope he's just making a slow start and will improve, because in all honesty, conceding an average of 2 goals a game against such modest opposition is a little worrying. I cant understand why we didnt go for Eduardo, who's definitely one of the keepers in the world right now.

I happen to agree with most of your guys thoughts.
I really like Ramires, especiall in how he tracked back to cover defensively, when Maxi got caught up top. He has nice pace out wide, and can cut or cover them middle very well.

That being said, we have to sell if they offer 20 mil.

Like it has been mentioned, he is a tremendous injury risk.
Remember he played a full seasonin Brazil and then joined Benfica right away without a break, and played a full Portuguese season as well. He was also involved in the World Cup for Brazil. Overall he's played well over 100 matches without a break, and it could come back to haunt him and the club.
You could tell later on in the season, his pace wasn't as crisp. He seemed slower than in the beggining.

I know how people keep saying that Benfica can't lose everybody, but last time I checked only one has moved. There's a lot of talk, but no movement for now. I agree in trying to keep these guys together and making a run at the Champions League. But, we do have coverage for teh middle and upfront. lets make sure the backline stays intact, and we should be ok.
not a good deal

Ramires is worth more than that. If teams are offering 25mil for Fabio, surely Ramires is worth just as much. Also, i think Benfica paid like 9mil for him last year, not 5. Plus, i thought i read on here or another website that some agency paid Benfica 6mil for 50% of his rights. So if they sell him for 20 they would only really get 10. I could be wrong. Anyway, Ramires can play CM and out wide. I would keep him for next year unless someone matches his buyout clause. Benfica can't lose everyone! We'll have no quality players left for the CL outside of Luiz and Saviola.
Toss up for me...???...

It's good $$ that benfica can't turn down but he's only been here 1 year. It's a toss up for me. I would like him to stay at least 1 more year. See if he has a good year this year especially in the CL games andmaybe his price could raise to 30 million. Whatever Benfica do, we have players on the bench who can step up.
Ramires

I agree with ramos, Ramires is a huge injury risk. I guess paying 5million for a player and selling him for 20 one year later is a great deal. I would rather keep him on board but Ruban has been really stepping up and I believe he is ready to be to the starter for the team.

benfica can't turn it down. it will be a shame to see him leave after one season but that kind of money is too good to refuse. especially when you consider ramires played all through last summer and then this year at the world cup. i can see him getting burned out at some stage in the new season.
