Jorge Jesus speaks our language - MartinsMidfielder discusses life at BenficaThe 28-year-old had a turblent time during his days with Sporting, but appeared to get back on track when he made the move to Spain in 2007. The player was brought back to Portugal by Sporting's bitter rivals Benfica and many felt that the transfer was a gamble that would not pay off for the Aguias, as many suspected that the ill-tempered Martins would soon rear his ugly head. But that has been far from the case, as Martins has proved to be a dynamic player for Benfica and even heralded as an unsung hero. Martins has made over 60 appearances for the encarnados and the midfielder's fiery, competitive spirit is welcomed as an admirable quality as the former Sporting man has picked up more silverware in his two years with Benfica than his entire career. Carlos Martins spoke to Benfica TV on various subjects regarding his personal state, the team itself and had nothing but praise for manager Jorge Jesus. Benfica career summary: It has been very positive. As I have had the opportunity to say previously, right from the first day that I arrived here, I was well received. I wanted to prove how much I wanted to come to Benfica and help the club win titles, and at this moment I am very satisfied with the work I have done. Now I hope to win more titles while serving Benfica. Champions League: We expect, above all, that the team reamins at the level of last season. If we are, we should have a good campaign. We know that the best teams and best players will be in the Champions League, and we know it will be diffcult. But Benfica always thinks big and when we go into these matches, they're to be won. Jorge Jesus: He is the best coach that I have had. Why? Because he is a coach who speaks the players' language - which is very important. One look is enough, a single word, he speaks a language which we understand. This being said, I'm not taking anything away from other coaches that I've had, but we identify more with him as an extrovert who reacts in the moment to what happens, as I do. All of this, in terms of coaches, he is, really, the one with whom I've identified the most. by Marco Pereira |

carlos martins deserved to be at the world cup
The running joke before last season, was that Martins was wearing Benfica's new polo shirt when they unvailed the new kit. It seem appropriate, due to him being injured all of the time.
I do like him, but I wish he worked better with Aimar. They seem to get each others way more often than not. I'm a big fan of Aimar leading the attack.
Lets see how he does this season, especially of Ramires leaves. He might have been an unsung hero, but we need him to be consistantly good now.
