"No one is desperate to leave" - CostaBenfica's executive quells transfer rumours Amid all the speculation surrounding the futures of the likes of Ramires and David Luiz, Benfica's director of football Rui Costa has come out and dismissed all the attention that certain players within the squad have received.
Rumours have been rampant all summer as clubs from across the continent are keen on striking deals for a number of Benfica's players. The Brazilian duo of Ramires and Luiz have grabbed the headlines as of late, but Fabio Coentrao, Luisao and Cardozo have also popped up in the transfer columns as well. In an attempt to diminish all the media focus and insinuations involving the aforementioned players, the living legend Costa feels that the club's players being linked to other clubs is just part of the business, and feels that everyone within the team is happy where they are, should they stay. "Benfica had an extraordinary season last year, just as the players did individually, and it is normal that other clubs appear and offer better financial conditions. It is also normal that players think about that too," explained the Benfica director. "What is also normal, and what we value highly, is that the players are not desperate to leave as the media is trying to imply. There could be some sort of invite for a player, but in the end they are Benfica players and we intend this to continue, and I don't believe that any would be unhappy if they were to stay." On whether the Lisbon side are done themselves in the transfer market, Rui Costa refused to admit that the club have finished their summer shopping, but did add that any movements, in or out, would be accompanied by issuing an official statement. "We are happy with the squad that we have. Whether someone arrives or leaves, only time will tell. The market is open until the end of August and a lot of things can happen in Europe." "It's best if Benfica are always active, as was the case with Jara and Gaitan - who were signed in the middle of the season." "We want to continue to fight for our objectives, win the championship again, and as a result, we will look to have the best team for Benfica. If an announcement is not made through the CMVM (Portugal stock market) it's because there have been no entries or exits." Roberto is fineFinally, Rui Costa spoke about new goalkeeper Roberto and has given the Spaniard a vote of confidence. The former Atletico Madrid netminder arrived for a hefty 8.5 million euros and some believe that the 24-year-old has done nothing to justify his price tag. || || |

I also know that Roberto has been shaky, but can we please let him settle. Last time I checked this pre season, and he is in a new team in a new city.
Rui Costa has been able to bring in the right players for Jesus to use. Lets have a bit of faith people.
The best thing about this article, is that it seems as if everybody will be staying put. Yes Ramires might still go, but keeping that backline together is imperitive.
PS.
Zezinho I like most if not all SLB supporters would've loved to see Eduardo between the pipes, but I don't believe that was ever a possibility for Braga. I can't see them selling Eduardo to the team directly to the team blocking the them from the title for years to come. I mean Mouthinho to Porto was enough of a miracle.
it's like Sardines Benfica, always better when they're Portuguese.
