Javier Saviola agrees to Benfica switch
Clubs confirm done dealBenfica and Real Madrid have reached an agreement which will see striker Javier Saviola move to the Lisbon giants for 5m euros. The Spanish club's director of football, Jorge Valdano, did admit to the Portuguese daily ABola that the two sides only have the smallest of details to sort out on a permanent deal and added that he does not see anything standing in the way of the Argentinean ace making the move to the Eagles. "Everything is well on their way. The negotiations will be finalised either today or tomorrow. We are negotiating a definitive transfer," stated Valdano. The 27-year-old striker will put pen to paper on a three-year deal, plus an option, and is expected to re-establish a formidable attack with former River Plate team mate Pablo Aimar, as well as Angel Di Maria and Oscar Cardozo. Benfica have also issued out a statement on the Portuguese stock market (Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários) confirming the transaction. Saviola is expecetd to be unveiled to the club's supporters shortly. by Marco Pereira

I agree this is a good signing and well worth the money... but if Saviola is worth 5 million euros, the Nene is worth all of the 4.5 million Cagliari paid for him. Benfica should not have passed up Nene, the Portuguese Liga's top scorer last year. If they wanted a striker, they should have signed Nene for this money, that would have been a better move.
FANTASTIC!!!!

Wow what a signing...I can't believe Benfica has one of the top forwards in the world...Saviola has been a goal scoring machine in every team he played for...Thank God his out of La Liga because the things Barcelona and Real Madrid were doing to him weren't right...This guy deserves to play each week...He'll get a nice fresh start at Benfica
Not Impressed

I'm not at all happy with the way things are going. Lets face it, why can Benfica splash our $6 for Reyes, while they are buying Saviola for $5. The ability between these to players are far out of range. Saviola have not played a major league football in years, not to consider how much he even scored. On the other hand, Reyes is there when Benfica was pushing for the top spot, from the beginning of the season straight through the end. I will have to say that Saviola will flop playing for Benfica. But things could be bad if Benfica loses Reyes for good.
Strikers...

With Jesus being a huge fan of Cardozo and now Saviola, plus Marcel, and Nuno Gomes. This gives us one of the most fearsome attacks in all of europe. Seroiusly, Cardozo scores 15- 20 a year. Saviola is a major steal who can easily score 20-25 under the right system. Marcel 5-10. Gomes 5-8 goals. Great Depth!!
Saviola
