Reyes still waiting for Benfica contact

Player's agent confirms phone idle

Jose Antonio ReyesBenfica's attempt at re-signing Jose Antonio Reyes has slowed to a crawl according to the Spaniard's representative Mariano Aguilar, as the agent has not received a phone call from the Portuguese club yet.

Many are wondering if the Lisbon side will ever pull the trigger and strike a deal with Atletico Madrid for the forward as talks appear to have stalled.

The Rojiblancos are asking for 6.5m euros for the former Arsenal player, but Benfica appear to be hung up over the asking price, despite already holding 25% of the Spaniard's rights.

The Aguias have stated on several occasions that they would like to see the Spanish international continue at the Estadio da Luz, but Reyes' agent would like to know if the Portuguese outfit will make their interest materialise.

'Supposing Benfica do count on the player, they cannot just demonstrate it in a press conferences, but they have to speak to me and Atletico Madrid," said Aguilar to Renascenca. "Until now, they have not spoken with me or Atletico."

"It appears to me that Benfica continue to be interested in Reyes. All he wants to know is how everything is going regarding his future."

"At the moment he is calm as he has two very good options, whether it be remaining with Atletico or returning to Benfica."

"He has always stated that he felt happy (at Benfica), but it is not up to him to decide, but Benfica."

Aguilar went further and added that there are other clubs vying for his client's services, but would only entertain other offers if Benfica decide not to pick up Reyes' option.

"There does exist interest from other clubs, but he knows what he wants. Reyes had a good season and that justifies the interest from other clubs, but we do not want to speak about this right now."

I'm sure Reyes wants to stay at Benfica, but I don't think Benfica will be willing to put down alot of money for him. Also, I'm sure Reyes wants to continue playing with with the likes of Cardozo, Aimar and having the new signings coming in like Shaffer, Patrik and Saviola. I would like see Reyes back in a Benfica jersey but we can only wait and see.
