Nuno Gomes inks two-year deal

Striker to end career with Lisbon club

Nuno GomesThey said it and they did it as Benfica have tied striker Nuno Gomes down for another two seasons as the famed Portuguese international will see out his playing days with his boyhood club.

The 32-year-old has spent the last seven seasons with the Aguias, ten in total - not to mention a small stint with Fiorentina inbetween, and never hid his desire to end his career with the Benfica.

The club also were very boisterous and adamant in wanting to renew with the former Boavista player as the announcement was made official via the club's web site.

The Benfica captain will now lace up and head for pre-season training as the striker, along with Oscar Cardozo, Javier Saviola and Mantorras, try to form a lethal attack for the upcoming season.

Completely, utterly, inarguably the most overrated Portuguese player of the last 20 years.

But I will give him credit, he's scored some big goals for the national team.
