Luisao delighted with renewal

Central defender to be at club for a decade

Luisao150505.jpgBenfica's Luisao is thrilled to have prolonged his contract with the Lisbon club as the stopper expressed his appreciation for the faith shown in him to remain until 2013.

An informal announcement regarding Luisao's extended deal was made last week by president Luis Filipe Vieira, but the organisation have now made it official having gone through the country's stock market.

The defender stated on Benfica TV that he is deeply moved by the club's gesture and went further by describing his fondess for Benfica ever since his arrival six years ago.

"I feel very happy for having renewed," said Luisao. "I have the umost affection for this club since I came here six years ago. It is with immense happiness that I can continue (to play) here. At the end of my contract it will be 10 years that I have been with Benfica."

"Despite being 28 years old, I think that I can still contribute a lot to the club. I want to help with the growth on the field, but outside of it as well - helping my companions who arrive with everything that the president asks of me."

"I am with the same enthusiasim that I had when I first arrived at the club. If for whatever reason I cannot fulfill my contract until 2013, I hope to return in order to end my career. That is my will."

No Braga letdown

The Benfica captain briefly spoke about Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Braga and the Brazilian was not disheartened to have lost as the defender feels that the championship race is still far from being decided and that the team will bounce back from the result.

"The atmosphere is good," claims the defener. "We know that the team is still growing and still has a long way to go in terms of what it can achieve. The work that we have done has been good and we are satisfied."

"We lament Saturday's defeat, but in a competition of 30 games it is nornal to lose one or two. What is important is continue on the path that we are currently on. We will be stronger from that match and will look to get back on track on Thursday in England against Everton."
