Benfica to land Robinho?Lisbon club make informal inquiries According to English daily The Independent, Benfica have approached Manchester City and have asked what conditions would have to be met in order for the former Real Madrid player to become available.
The Samba star's petulant behaviour over at the Eastlands has been well-documented and the Citizens are very much looking to offload their multi-million dollar flop, and Benfica emerging as a possible suitor. Details of any discussions have not been revealed by either club and newly inserted coach Roberto Mancini, and chief executive Garry Cook, are keeping their cards close to their chests when asked about the Brazilian's situation. With the scoring exploits by Tevez, Bellamy and Petrov this season, Robinho has fallen way down in the pecking order and looks to be leaving the city of Manchester with his bags already packed. Former club Santos are also vying for the forward's services, and appear to be in the lead, but Robinho will have to reduce his salary considerably in order to seal a move back to his native Brazil. The 26-year-old has stated that he needs to be playing regular first team football if he wants to make Carlos Dunga's Brazil squad, as it is a World Cup year, and feels that he cannot achieve it with Manchester City. by Marco Pereira |
