Official: Man United’s Bebe makes Besiktas loan move

Portuguese headed for Istanbul

Turkish club Besiktas have confirmed the signing of Portugal under-21 international Bebe on a one-year loan deal from Manchester United.

In a statement released to the Turkish stock market, Besiktas announced that they have paid the Premier League champions a €1m fee to take the 20-year-old on loan for the 2011-12 campaign, although there was no mention of whether an option to make the deal permanent was included.

Bebe joined United last August in a shock €9m move from Vitoria Guimaraes, where he had spent just five weeks, having signed from Estrela da Amadora earlier in the summer. However, the forward made little impact at Old Trafford during his debut season, making just seven first-team appearances and spending much of the season in the reserves.

The arrival of Bebe at the Inonu Stadium will takes Besiktas’ Portuguese contingent to five, with internationals Manuel Fernandes, Ricardo Quaresma, Simao Sabrosa and Hugo Almeida already with the Black Eagles.

Bebe hardly played this year but I do recollect a game in which he started and he was awful an embarrassment. He was played on the wing and his crosses were going way off field, it seemed that it was the first time he had ever kicked a ball.

That being said, he has size and speed and perhaps he can still be made into a player.

This guy needs our support, is raw, and has potential. This may be a good move to develop his raw ability. Bebe is better served playing behind the striker or as a striker. He is not a wide player and another case of ManU not using a player correctly trying to fit a player into their system. You can not make a player geared to play in the striker role or behind the striker and try to make them a wide player. Hopefully this player is used correctly and gets chances.

this is Portugal's opportunity to get some young potential developed into our weakest role. The lone striker. With Coentrao going to Real madrid the defense line up is covered there, now we have some old wingers who can help mold a new forward for the national team. It might all come together for the 2014 World Cup in Brasil, maybe Ronaldo can mature by then.
Bebe and great should be used in the same sentence.

Bebe is very, very, very, very... RAW. I did see him play, and he looked embarassing at times. He never looked as if he belonged on the same field as the other players.
Man United/SAF supposedly bought him sight unseen, due to Queiroz's recomendation. Nine million for Bebe was absolutely insane, especially sight unseen.

Now, let's remember that he is young and had no real first first team real football experience. You can see glimpses of potential, and hopefully this move will allow him to grow.
I also agree that Man United shoudl have never put him out wide. He is more of a striker, but like I said, very very raw.

To say that the English media bashed him because he isn't English is crazy. I don't see Chucharito being bashed.
The fact is that Man United wasted 9 million on a completely unproven talent. Chucharito cost 8 mil. The twins Fabio and Rafael were 12 million combined.
Hopefully Bebe can harness his potential/talent and not become an all time bust.

He needs more playing time. He looked slow and bit over weight at ManU. He should get more playing time and slim down a bit.

Tayfur Havutcu will play 4-4-2 with most likely Bebe-Almeida as fowards, or Bebe will be a sub for the 22 year old new transfer Mustafa Pektemek, a very talented Turkish striker.

Besiktas also has got his option. Besiktas will pay 1 million for his loan, his option is 11 million, however with the 1 million Besiktas is paying they can buy him for 10 million euro at the end of the season.

First off, this site is fantastic. Even in the off season the debate is lively and the news keeps coming. My compliments to all involved.

This is a great move. He is very young still. Like nathan and Alexandre mention, he is moving to an environment with a great support system. The level of soccer he is playing is fine, especially since he will probably be playing instead of sitting or playing with reserves. We need to remember that Man U is very strong at striker with Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Owens and now potentially Machado coming back from Serie A.

It's important for everyone to support our Portuguese players, even the ones that may not pan out the way we had hoped. I don't know if Bebe will ever become anything great or not, but I definitely am cheering for him. I think Besiktas is as good a place for him as any. With 4 other Portuguese players there to help him out, he could end up becoming a great player. He's very young and still has time to develop and hopefully he will play enough at Besiktas to show everyone what he's got. Good luck to Bebe and may it be a profitable experience for both him and Besiktas.

It is only a loan initially, and Besiktas could be good for him. He will feel at home with all the Portuguese players there and have more time on the pitch to evolve and learn his trade. I think it is a positive move for him.

I don't think so,,in my opinion bebe should be used for his natural position,,a striker..in Man Utd SAF always trust him as a winger,,because Man Utd already have a bunch of strikers..so it has nothing to do with quaresma position,,you want his moving to atletico madrid?please i don't wanna see his 'third flop' in a big team(after barca and inter)...good loan for him,,i wish d best for him,,he can learn a lot from Almeida,,and learn how to cross perfectly with simao and quaresma..right now he is the raw talent..,,but someday i believe he will turn out to be a superstar,,and Manutd will regret offloading him,,like what they did to Forlan

I want to know why some many people hate on Bebe. From the games that I watched, when he played I saw wonderful raw talent. Considering what he overcame to get to Man U I cannot say anything negative. I just feel Man U shouldn't have been so quick to give up on him, I mean if macheda is returning from loan at least give Bebe a chance for half a season then loan him out for the remainder. I just think he has a lot of potential and I dont want to see him rot away in Turkey if Besiktas choose to buy him out after loan. I'd rather see him come to sporting lol

Bebe shows great promise. I mean for Man United to spend 9 million its because he did somthing right. I think its good for Bebe to play a year in Turkey to have better experience. And playing alongside portuguese footballers would teach the kid somthing. Quaresma hasn't show much talent for the national team but has been money well spent for Besiktas. So I think this move would do good for Bebe to play with well known portuguese players and get some more experience.

Wishing Bebe much success at his new club! When watching him play, we noticed that he has skill, but needs to develop confidence and assertiveness while playing. Hopefully, Bebe will mature to a great soccer player for Portugal and ManU next year. GOOD LUCK!!

From what I have seen, Bebe cannot play on the wings. He is extremely fast, but he is very, very poor technically and his crossing is absolutely terrible. He is pretty tall and he has a very strong shot, so Man United are trying to develop him as a center forward. Technically, he just isn't good enough for the EPL, and probably not even for the Liga Sagres. If he can improve his touch/technique, and learn how to use his physique, he can become a pretty good centerforward. He should probably put on some more muscle as well so he can become more physical.

It makes me upset that this guy hasn't played one official game in our league but he gets sent to Besiktas on loan. I think it would of been better if he was loaned to another English club to learn better English.

He needs experience. He has a great shot and great pace. I think the english media are bashing him simply because he's not english.

Portugal needs Bebe to step it up big time now. Ukra, Diogo Salomao, Pizzi, and Wilson Eduardo are at least showing promise. Bebe hasn't shown much because he's only played a limited amount of games. Hopefully Besiktas will sell Quaresma to Atletico Madrid and hopefully Bebe can take his spot.
