Braga squad speak as one: “Tonight was very good, but the job isn’t finished”
Moises dedicates victory to recently deceased father
Although understandably delighted after the 3-0 win over Celtic in the Champions League, Braga coach Domingos Paciencia and his players refused to slip into euphoria, insisting they need an equally good performance in Glasgow to complete the job.
Domingos Paciencia, Braga coach:
“It’s an important step. The first half has finished. At the moment we have the advantage but in football whoever takes it easy will end up suffering for it. It’s a good result but there’s still a lot to do. We have to keep working hard and with a good attitude like the team showed today.
“We create the challenge for ourselves. We want to win, but we don’t intend to go around proving anything to anybody. Sometimes things come off, other times they don’t, but we won’t stop trying.
“We know there are still ninety minutes left. We know what happened to Benfica not long ago [beat Celtic 3-0 in Lisbon and lost 3-0 in Glasgow], and we are prepared for this. There is another game to try and win.”
Alan, Braga forward:
“We played a great game. We know it’s going to be difficult there. We have to show this same determination. Today we took a big step forwards. Now we’re going to rest, then we’ll see what happens. They have a good team, but we were at a very high level. We studied their team carefully and cancelled out their game.”
Elderson, Braga left-back:
“It was a good result and a very good night. For me it’s a good start because we managed a good result for the second leg. They have a good team, good players, but we were better. Every day I fight for the best for me and for my club. We are very happy.”
Moises, Braga defender:
“It was the first half of a game and a very important step. It’s a great victory and I want to highlight the effort put in by all the players. We had to work hard, following on from the pre-season we had. We studied out opponents, who are a great team and we had respect for them. I want to dedicate this triumph to my father, who passed away recently and who was a very important person to me.”
Vandinho, Braga captain:
“This is the moment to commemorate the great game we played, but we know that nothing is decided yet. We have another 90 minutes to achieve a big dream. We know the atmosphere we are going to encounter, but we are ready for it. It’s going to be difficult, but we know that to realise this dream today we had to fight a lot last year.
“Everyone gave their best and we managed a great result. We’re going to play with the same fight and determination over there.”
