Liga comes down hard on Vandinho

Mossoro and Ney also punished

vandinho.jpgSporting Braga were hit with a massive blow as the club just received notice from the Liga that they will have to do without the services of Vandinho (pictured), Mossoro and Ney.

All three players have been issued punishments from the Liga Disciplinary Committee for incidents during the half-time fracas in the match between Braga and Benfica, and Vandinho has been punished the most severely as the midfielder has been suspended for the next three months.

After reviewing footage from the match back on October 31, the governing body has reprimanded the 32-year-old for attemtped assault against Benfica assistant manager Raul Jose. Besides being forced to sit out for a lengthy period of time, the Brazilian has been made to pay a 1500 euro fine.

Team mates Mossoro and Ney (now loaned to Vitoria Setubal) were not sentenced as harshly, but  the former was handed a three-match suspension and 1500 euro fine, while Ney was slapped with a one match suspenion and 1000 euro fine, both for demonstrating acts of aggression towards Benfica striker Oscar Cardozo.

Others fines went to Braga's Alan, 750 euros, and Benfica's Ramires, 400 euros. Other members of Benfica's delegation (Rui Pereira, Jose Ribeiro and Jose da Cruz) were all issued fines of 750 euros or under.

It is understood that Braga are livid with the announcement, but no word has been issued, at this time, by the club about whether they plan on appealing against any of the decisons made.

Felipe...what do you want. Braga players arent suspended right away...you think its a conspiracy...then porto players are suspended right away...its a conspiracy!

Felipe in all other leagues, a team caught in corruption scandals are sent to the second division..ie Olympique Marseille, Juventus...In Portugal, Porto stays in the first division, and Boavista gets sent down and becomes obsalete...that my friend is a conspiracy!

How funny...ps does the liga trophy already hav red ribbons tied to it? If players did wrong,i do agree wit suspensions,i just wanna know where is video evidence against benfica, somehow the cameras are never pointed in their direction.but anyway, who cares...wat has to change is the ligas timing of suspensions,it must be done promptly, this braga incident is 4months ago,and porto is still sittin without hulk waiting for some decision to be reached.by no means has benfica won the title yet, lots of games to go.

There is no conspiracy by Benfica. An example of a conspiracy is when Pinto da Costa was paying officials off a couple of years ago during the "golden whistle" scandal. Remember that?
I do agree that this is terrible timing for Braga but they have planned accordingly. I am a Benfiquista and if we do win the title I want it to be on level terms. This should have been dealt with much earlier.
Blinded by "video proof" and other non-sense

Ok, let's break this down. The common denominator is absoloutely Benfica. There players were responsible for the nonsense in the Braga tunnel. DiMaria starts the inciddent, Ramires escalates it further, and Cardozo plays his piece. Mossoro and Ney the only involved on the Braga side. I can live with both of their suspensions, you can see that they pushed Cardozo.

This is available for all to see in the video proof. Cardozo saw red, and got a 1 match ban. Justice was served. Ramires got fined, ok...justice served. DiMaria, gets no fine and no suspension. His case is supposedly archived for the future. There is no video proof anywhere that Vandinho assaults anyone. There is no police report that he did so, and the referees didn't report it either. How can he get a 3 month ban when there are no reports filed from any of the parties other than an accusation from a Benfica assistant?

The timing of the suspensions is aweful. The disciplinary comittee needs to act on these violations in a more timely fashion. This comes conveniently the day after the transfer window closes.

This should have been resolved a while ago. Braga got taken care of in this one not Benfica. I have to wonder what the outcome of some the Braga games would have been had this punishment been handed out in a more timely manner. It's no secret Benfica outplayed Braga that day and had a few bounces not gone Braga's way Benfica would be alone at the top of the table. That's all speculation obviously, but I am certain we will capture the Liga and Europa title this year. Forca SLB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, it simply comes down to video proof. You can't say its Benfica's fault that Braga/Porto players where caught breaking the law on video. Just dumb on their part.

Filipe, I don't know why it took so long from Braga to get their punishments. You are wrong, the one common denominator is not Benfica, its Video Proof of players attacking other people.

The only difference is that Porto assaulted liga employees where as Braga assaulted Benfica players and trainers. Its not surprising that the liga suspended the Porto players right away.

I'm also guessing that the video being leaked from the police in Portugal of Porto bribing refs and agents to rig games a couple of years ago has made the league look bad and they are not tolerating them no more. Just look up the videos yourself on youtube. In this day and age you cannot get away with this type of actions without getting it video.

If you want to treat a soccer pitch like the hood then by all means get suspended. If you want the hood then go back to it but it deserves no spot in football
League is a joke/ Benfica Conspiracy

The disciplinary committee is a complete joke. These incidents happened months ago, and they conveniently come to a decision at the close of the january transfer window. Not allowing Braga to react to the decision. Luckily Braga already reinforced those spots. The same is to be said with the incidents between porto and benfica. How is it that Porto's players are automatically suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. In all other leagues, players are suspended after the investigation. Benfica's two adversaries in the title run are getting crushed by stupid rules, and negligent ruling bodies. They should all be fired. So frustrating to see this all happen in our league. The one common denominator here is Benfica, and there players seem to be immune to ever getting suspened by the league.

Karma will hunt them down. They pulled out all the stops, but they will still come up short this year. What can potentially be Europe's best attack, coming in second place at the end of the year to Europe's best defense. Now that would be justice.
