Benfica, Guimaraes to meet againSporting also in tough group The Liga released the draw for the Carlsberg Cup and old foes will be re-acquainted as Benfica and Vitoria Guimaraes have been drawn together for a second straight season.
The two teams were also in the same group last season and met again in the semi-finals with the Lisbon club coming out on top on both occasions, before going on to win the competition. But Guimaraes will look to dethrone the current cup holders as the minhoto side will use their recent victory over the Aguias in this year's Portuguese Cup as a motivator. Besides the aforementioned clubs, Rio Ave and Nacional round out Group C Elsewhere, Sporting have it all to do as the Leoes were pitted against Liga co-leaders Sporting Braga, Uniao de Leiria and Trofense. FC Porto, theoretically, have it the easiest as they will face Leixoes, Portimonense and Estoril. Matches will take place throughout the month of January and the group winners along with the best second-place team overall will move onto the semi-finals, which will take place on February 10. The final is slated to be disputed March 20/21 with the venue yet to be determined.
