It's 50/50 - Jorge Jesus

Benfica coach attributes neither side as favourites

jorgejesus_armsraised.jpgDespite having impressed several times this season and currently on a good run of form, Benfica boss Jorge Jesus feels that his side have no advantage over FC Porto heading into the final of the Carlsberg Cup tonight at the Estadio do Algarve.

The Aguias pulled off a sensational win over Marseille in the Europa League on Thursday and immediately flew to the south of Portugal where they will face their bitter rivals in the league cup final.

Some suggest that Benfica will send out a weakened side, seeing as how they will have to play Sporting Braga in the race for the championship next weekend and then Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-finals later in the same week.

Having already admitted that the Carlsberg Cup was the least of the team's priorities, Jesus states that he will field the team he feels will perform the best.

"It is a function of recuperation from the match against Marseille. I will utilise the players who I consider are in the best condition to play against FC Porto."

"But a final is a final and it doesn't matter which team is the best at the moment. Normally, that is a supplement for motivation and for the passion to play in a final. Therefore, in this regard, I don't think Benfica has any sort of advantage."

"We are in the exact same position as FC Porto. The possibilities are divided 50-50 for either side," claimed Jesus.
