Carvalho sets sights on Real Madrid move: “Chelsea are obliged to release me”

Defender wants Mourinho reunion

Chelsea’s Portuguese international Ricardo Carvalho has stated that he would relish the chance to link up with former coach Jose Mourinho by moving to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Carvalho, 32, has been the subject of strong transfer speculation in recent weeks, with European champions Internazionale linked with a move for the stopper. With Chelsea apparently open to the idea of cashing in on the former Porto man, Carvalho admits it would be a huge attraction to re-join former Dragons boss Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“If there was a chance to sign for Real Madrid, I would happily swim or run there,” Carvalho told Madrid daily AS. “Chelsea have an obligation to let me leave this summer, for reasons that both I and those responsible at the club know.

“It would be a dream to play for Real Madrid, which I consider to be the best club in the world, and to work for the best coach in football history. With Mourinho I experienced two wonderful stages at Porto and Chelsea. To have the chance to win another Champions League with him at Real Madrid would be fantastic.

“I have spent six spectacular seasons at Chelsea and have had the chance to have glory at this club, but I repeat that joining Madrid would be a dream. I am grateful to Roman Abramovich for signing me and making me a part of Chelsea’s project for six years. He has been very important for English football and for Chelsea, which has now become one of the world’s best clubs.”

Carvalho won 14 titles under Mourinho at Porto, including the Champions League in 2004. When asked about the fact that he is older than a lot of the other reported defensive targets being considered by Real Madrid, Carvalho added: “I am in the best stage of my career, because I am physically well and have lots of experience.”

As long and massive Chelsea fan from the early 80ts i am diasappointed we may loose Carvalho it seems we are loosing all our Portuguse contingent since the special one Jose left. Being Portuguse myself i was so happy when the special one came to us, and bought the top Portuguse players with him and was very succsessful. When i read Ricky has a agreement with Chelsea to let him go i sometimes wonder do our players have this much power the answer yes!!. All i hope with our defencive injuries is that Carlo has plans to bring in David Luiz a perfect replacement for Ricki, or give Macciene his chance to establish himself not only has he come through our ranks he is still young and could really improve his game along side J T. Possible Chelsea and England Captain when J T retires.
I Don't think so

Carvalho is a great player, and being a center back his age doesn't come into play. He plays a wonderful intelegent game.
Chelseas seems to be purging itself of their high salary's, so I can see him going. Real would seem the perfect fit as well.
Carvalho and Pepe would man the middle and Ramos would move out wide.

As for Portuguese players staying home to play, we can't have it both ways. The facts are that Portuguese clubs can't pay the salaries that are needed to keep these players. The TV, merchandising, and sales within the league is not high enough to maintain them.
Lets be happy that Portugal is well known throughout the world, in having world class players. Not too bad for a country of 10 million.
Carvalho=Maldini?

I sometimes question players ages but Carvalho seems like he could if he wanted to play until his late 30s. Maldini played until he was 40 and they are somewhat similar in terms of positioning and tactical awareness. Neither Maldini nor Carvalho have blazing speed so really if he trains well and stays in shape his tactical awareness will be enough. Real Madrid could really be a force next year which is pretty obvious haha.

Carvalho is the top defender in world soccer. I hope that his wishes come true and that he joins Real Madrid and reunites with Mourinho. Real Madrid will be very lucky to have such a professional and talented player.
Best wishes Carvalho!! I'll be looking forward to watching you play.

Even though he played for Porto I respect this man very much as a footballer and he was never affected by negativity. Chelsea is simply on drugs for not keeping Carvalho he is the best central defender on the team, John Terry is a goof never was better than Ricky.

Well, Real Madrid is lucky enough to work Carvalho and with the best club manager in the world and I wish Real Madrid luck in La Liga.

It feels that with every passing day another player from Portugal , Portuguese or not ,is leaving Portuguese teams to play in some of the worlds best Football clubs.
Sounds like Portugal has become the breading ground for Great Footballers and a steeping stone to Europe for South American players.
The Portuguese Football clubs need to keep some of the good players and show the world that Portugal can compete wiht the greats of Real , Barca, Chealse and Man U.

Ricardo Carvalho is quite simply of the top players in World football. His technique, intelligence, bravery, and physical condition is first rate and his attitude and professionalism set the the bar very high for all aspiring international players. He goes about his work quietly without a fuss but always playing to the highest standards. Real Madrid and Sr. Mourinho will be very lucky to get him and Chelsea and Porto are i am sure very grateful for his tremendous service over the years. All the best Ricky, you are one of the best Portugal have ever had.
