Ze Castro: Portugal my biggest targetDefender aiming for consolidation this term Deportivo La Coruna defender Jose Castro says it is his primary objective to become a regular in Carlos Queiroz’s Portuguese international set-up.
The 26-year-old central defender enjoyed a solid debut season at the Riazor Stadium last season, and subsequently earned a call-up to the Seleccao das Quinas, making his senior debut in the 0-0 draw with Estonia in June. Depor also performed well in La Liga, with a 7th place finish surpassing expectations. Looking ahead to the 2009/10 campaign, which starts with a trip to Real Madrid, Ze Castro is clear that his international ambitions are of utmost importance. “The most important goal I have, on a personal level, is to continue in the national team,” he said. “If I do things well I’ll have more chances, but it’s difficult because of the competition there is in the national side. “This year I want to do my best, at least as well as last year. Individually we have enough, bit it’s up to the group as a whole. The Spanish league has always been the best league and this year it has managed to capture the best players from other leagues, so it will be even more difficult. I do not know if we can be among the six best teams.” Related article: Ronaldo to debut against Ze Castro By Sean Gillen Add your comment |
