Ze Castro open to Sporting movePlayer's agent confirms no contact has been established Reports out of Portugal claim that Sporting are planning an ambitious project for next season and one of the players that they are targeting is Ze Castro.
The Portuguese stopper has spent the last four years in La Liga, the first two with Atletico Madrid and the last two with Deportivo La Coruna, but might be hankering for a transfer back to Portugal. The former Academica player has not enjoyed a banner year with the Galician outfit having failed to win over manager Miguel Angel Lotina, and hence looks poised to seek a transfer in exchange for first-team football. The interest sprouting from Lisbon's Lions may just be the answered prayer that the 27-year-old was hoping for. But according to the player's agent Nuno Patrao, no-one from Sporting has made contact with anyone within the Ze Castro camp, despite recognising the club as a viable option. "No-one from Sporting has approached me or the player himself. We only know what we have heard in the media," confessed Patrao to Renascenca. "Now to have a club such as Sporting show interest, or any big club from Portugal, is always an honour. But at this moment he still has three years left on his contract (with Deportivo) and is very happy." "A club like Sporting always has the ambition to fight for the championship, go far in UEFA and fight for cups. Ze Castro is also ambitious. Sporting opens different doors than Deportivo can." One stumbling block that may prevent the Coimbra native from making a return to his homeland is his release clause, which Patrao clearly stated was fixed 12 million euros. by Marco Pereira |
