Paulo Sergio calls for Sporting to show arrogance
Coach names Daniel Carrico as captain for Europa League opener
Sporting could hardly be more confident as they prepare to take on modest Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland in the Europa League 3rd qualifying round first leg tomorrow. Both coach Paulo Sergio and captain Daniel Carrico (pictured) have called for a dominant display.
Carrico was named captain for the match by his coach and set out Sporting’s intentions in the pre-match press conference today. “We want to leave here in a winning position and having scored as many goals as possible,” said Carrico.
The defender has no doubts that the Lions have to make their superior standing count against the Danish cup winners, or indeed any adversary. “Whenever Sporting walk out on the pitch it is to win the game,” he added.
Coach Paulo Sergio was equally confident of success in the team’s first official engagement of the 2010/11 season.
“It’s a game that we want to win and it’s not the time for anxiety or worries. In all matches, regardless of the opponents, Sporting will be thinking only of victory, even entering with an arrogant attitude. I want to see Sporting bossing the play,” said the Portuguese tactician.
As for the team news, Maniche has overcome an injury scare and Paulo Sergio has a full squad to choose from.
