Evertons Nuno Valente sends out warning to Benfica

“Wounded pride” set to fire up Premier League club says Portuguese

Nuno ValenteFormer Portugal left-back Nuno Valente has warned Benfica that their Europa League clash against Everton tomorrow will be very different from the encounter in Lisbon a fortnight ago.

Valente says the English club’s players have “had their pride wounded”, adding that he expects the Premier League side to win at Goodison Park.

After winning all there was to win in club football at FC Porto, Nuno Valente played out the final years of his career in England for Everton. After hanging up his boots he maintained his association with the club, as he is their official scout in Portugal.

It is therefore not a case of divided loyalties when it comes down to who he wants to see come out on top on Thursday. “I work for Everton and it’s obvious that I want the best for the club I work for. I hope that Everton win,” Valente told Portuguese radio station Antena 1.

“The Everton players had their pride wounded by the first match, and in the home match want to rectify the image they left. They want a different result to that in Lisbon. In that game they were missing a lot of important players, but the game at Goodison Park will certainly be very different.

“Everton want to win and know that if they do so the team is practically qualified for the next phase.”

only a typical Benfica fan. They cannot stand another criticism or opinion of there team unless it is for saying they are the best, most brilliant, glorious and so on? Dude stop the hate at least he doesn't go on your favourite team's page and bash them. By the way Manuel/Sao Miguel I believe Cardozo will play because he is only suspended for two games for Portuguese football games. By the way Benfica shouldn't take any opponent lightly they need to qualify.

...and you're a typical anti-Benfica fan - never giving credit to the team for anything. You enjoy putting them down more and applauding your own side.

Bluenose, if you really want that fatass on your team, hey, be my guest. But I do like Everton without him.

Benfica will be without Cardozo..but we have plenty of players that can attack. His presence will be missed. Everton gaining some players back makes them a little more dangerouns. But I believe Benfica can pull out the win. We are looking to continue our winning ways after that braga loss.Who better than Everton again to start.I think Benfica wins 2-1

Bluenose, Gary is only a typical Benfica fan. They cannot stand another criticism or opinion of there team unless it is for saying they are the best, most brilliant, glorious and so on. I dont now how Valente was for Everton but he was a brilliant player for Porto and for Portugal - Carlos Queiroz needed him now.

....and they will probably have a much better chance now that you're no longer playing - you're a never-was. I'm sure if it were Porto, your feelings would be different.

Anyway, Everton lost to Bolton and Spurs, and then drew against Villa after that beating. Confidence is something they don't have. I don't expect another bludgeoning, but another win for Benfica is not far-fetched.
