Benfica-Liverpool to do battle

Old foes renew acquaintances in Europa League

LiverpoolBenfica090306.jpgThe draw for the Europa League quarter-finals took place earlier this afternoon at the Uefa headquarters in Nyon and for all their tireless efforts, Benfica will like their chances to advance to the semi-finals as they face Liverpool.

It won't be the first time that these two sides have met in European action as the most recent encounter took  place in the Round of Sixteen of the 2005/06 Champions League when the Portuguese side (pictured right) ousted the then defending European champions 3-0 (agg.).

The first-leg will be held at the Estadio da Luz on April 1 and the return-leg will be held at Anfield a week later, on April 8.

The winner of this mammoth contest will go onto to face the winner between Valencia-Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals, which is slated for April 22 & 29.

Full Draw

Quarter-Finals - April 1 & 8

Liverpool will win easy. This isn't the portuguese league so the referees wont be helping Benfica like they usually do. Benfica are half the team they usually are when the have their 12th man in the squad Mr. Referee.
Could have been better

Benfica draws Liverpool wow I thought we would draw them out of any of the teams left in the tournament but I'm pleased. Liverpool is still fighting for that 4th place in England and they have played a extra game than Tottenham and two extra than Manchester City so they have there own problems so it could effect them but never know this is what makes it exciting. I can't wait!

Forca Benfica!!
Not bad

BRING IT ON LIVERPOOL!

The rematch from the classic 05/06 round of 16 tie is here...I just hope we can pull off another amazing win against those guys...To bad we don't have Simao and Miccoli to score though, but at least we still have Luisao lol...Also little pissed we have to play home first, but we did the exact same thing four years ago and came out on top...It should be another classic matchup between Benfica and Liverpool...

FORCA BENFICA
OH NO!!!

Exactly what I didn't want to happen. My two fav teams facing off. Of course I want SLB to win, but it will be extremely tough.......Liverpool only have this to focus on and salvage a horrendous season for them. Hopefully, they will be tired from battling for fourth place in England. That said, Benfica can beat anyone on any given day with this squad. Forca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They can do it

No doubt. Benfica can beat Liverpool no problem. The only thing they have to worry about is the referees. Porto were screwed by Arsenal because of it.
benfica can win

Liverpool has individually gifted players but benfica are better as a team. I'm a porto fan saying "Forca Glorioso!" because 1) i don't hate benfica, 2) they are giving a name for the portuguese league and 3) i don't like liverpool. Di Maria will make a name for himself against liverpool.
Exciting Match

It will be great to knock out one of Englands big boys again. The best part is the prospect of meeting Atletico on the semi's for some pay back. I hated that coach at Benfica last season, that guy was pure trash and given that they cheaply got by Sporting, I would love to meet them in the semi's for an ass kicking.
Bring it..
